Eternal Light Opens
Fourth Year On Air
WithW ishengrad Play

NEW YORK—A special anni-
versary broadcast to mark the
beginning of the Eternal Light's
fourth year on the air, featuring
Morton Wishengrad's radio play,
"My Brother's Brother," will be
presented at 8 a. m. Sunday, Oct.
12 on station WWJ.
"My Brother's Brother" tells
the story of the 6400 Jewish citi-
zens of the Hungarian city of Sa-
toral-ja-ijhely who were trans-
ported to the death camps of
Auschwitz. Upon their departure,
the local Catholic Bishop, Franz
Payer, pledged himself to the pre-
-servation of their Torahs from
Nazi desecration. After the war,
only 435 of the original 6400 sur-
vived to reclaim the treasured
scrolls.
The chance to help reconstruct
their broken community was
given this little congregation by
members of the Forest Hills Jew-
ish Center in New York. In grati-
tude, the Jews of Satoral-ja-ijhely
sent them the most venerated of
the Torahs which had been saved
from the Germans. This Torah,
was dedicated at a formal cere-
mony at the Forest Hills Center
Sept. 20.
During its three years on the
air, the Eternal Light has attract-
/ ed an audience which is estimated
today at 6,000,000 listeners. The
program is broadcast each week_
by almost 70 NBC network sta-
tions, and in recent months the
program- has become a regular
feature of the official Palestine
Broadcasting System and the
German networks.
