Jew Given Sentence
For Striking Former
Hitler Youth Member
LONDON (JTA) — A German
civil court has sentenced to prison
a German Jewish emigre who is
employed by the British army in
the British zone of Germany for
striking a former member of the
Hitler Youth movement.
The Jew, 23-year-old Kurt Ber-
ger, recently recognized and
turned over to the police Hans
Helmke, whom he recognized as
a Hitler Youth member.
Kurt, who could not control his
emotions while reciting the Nazi's
persecutions of his family, struck
Helmke. British authorities took
no action in the case, but Helmke
later complained to the German
police who arrested Kurt in the
presence of Allied officers. The
German court tried and sentenced
him to a two-month term.

command and undisputed leader-
ship of the World Zionist move-
ment, was voiced by Louis Lipsky
veteran American Zionist leader,
at the annual convention of the
fraternal order Bnai Zion.
Mr. Lipsky praised the presen-
tation of the Jewish case before
the UN Assembly by Dr. Abba
Hillel Silver, Moshe Shertok and
David ben Gurion. The fine im-
pression they made must not be
marred by factional differences,
he said. "Attention should not
now be diverted by small par-
tisan disputes within Zionism.
Still laboring under the stress of
emotion produced by the destruc-
tion wrought by the war, the
Jewish people are nationally
stirred and torn by great excite-
ment and anxieties; their moral
indignation is irrepressible; but
within the leadership, at least,
there should be an area of calm
deliberation where utterances and
action should be tempered by
wisdom and moderation."
Mr. Lipsky condemned the vio-
lent extremists in Palestine who
reject national discipline and
thus do injury to our political
interests, as well as the "impos-
sible groups" in the United
States who pretend to aid them.
