Top Scholastic Honors
At Wayne Med. School
VHS Alumni Establish Scholaisliip
In Memory Of Colleague, Eva COhen
The distinction of being "the
senior student having the highest
scholastic average for his four
years at the Wayne University
College of Medicine" went to
Dr. Irving Young, who on May 7
was awarded the Alumni Service
Award at the honors convocation
at Rackham Memorial Hall.
On May 8, Dr.
Young, who will
receive his de-
gree from
Wayne Univer-
sity College of
Medicine on
June 12, was
honored at the
initiation dinner
of Sigma Xi, na-
tional scientific
honor society,
Dr. L Young from which he
received the aolden Key.
Last year he was given the
highest honors at the College of
Medicine by being elected to
Alpha Omega Alpha, medical
honor society. He served as pres-
ident of AOA last year.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam
Young of 2526 Tuxedo, Dr. Young
is a grandson. of the famous Rab-
bi Ridwaz of Slutzk. He is a grad-
uate of Central High School. In
April, 1946, he was married to
Bina Levine, a senior at Wayne
University. His sister, Dr. Mil-
dred Axelrod, was graduated
from Wayne University College
of Medicine, together with her
husband, last June.
In memory of Eva Margolis
Cohen, graduate of the United
Hebrew Schools, a scholarship
fund is being established to send
worthy Hebrew school students
to Sharon Educational Camp.
Action to establish_ the fund
was taken at a reunion dinner
of the first two graduating
classes of the schools held last
week, when members of the
classes of 1923 and '24 paid
tribute to her memory.
Camp Sharon, established last
year by the College of Jewish
Studies of Chicago in coopera-
tion with several midwestern
bureaus of Jewish education, is
a combination summer camp and
institution for the study of He-
brew language and literature.
Guest speaker at the reunion
was Meyer Harrison, who gave
an enthusiastic description of his
17 years at Kibbutz Romath Yoh-
anan in Palestine. Harrison, a
UHS graduate, said that the
Kibbutz has grown from a group
of 40 men and women to about
500, including 150 refugees.
