School VHS Alumni Establish Scholaisliip In Memory Of Colleague, Eva COhen The distinction of being "the senior student having the highest scholastic average for his four years at the Wayne University College of Medicine" went to Dr. Irving Young, who on May 7 was awarded the Alumni Service Award at the honors convocation at Rackham Memorial Hall. On May 8, Dr. Young, who will receive his de- gree from Wayne Univer- sity College of Medicine on June 12, was honored at the initiation dinner of Sigma Xi, na- tional scientific honor society, Dr. L Young from which he received the aolden Key. Last year he was given the highest honors at the College of Medicine by being elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, medical honor society. He served as pres- ident of AOA last year. The son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Young of 2526 Tuxedo, Dr. Young is a grandson. of the famous Rab- bi Ridwaz of Slutzk. He is a grad- uate of Central High School. In April, 1946, he was married to Bina Levine, a senior at Wayne University. His sister, Dr. Mil- dred Axelrod, was graduated from Wayne University College of Medicine, together with her husband, last June. In memory of Eva Margolis Cohen, graduate of the United Hebrew Schools, a scholarship fund is being established to send worthy Hebrew school students to Sharon Educational Camp. Action to establish_ the fund was taken at a reunion dinner of the first two graduating classes of the schools held last week, when members of the classes of 1923 and '24 paid tribute to her memory. Camp Sharon, established last year by the College of Jewish Studies of Chicago in coopera- tion with several midwestern bureaus of Jewish education, is a combination summer camp and institution for the study of He- brew language and literature. Guest speaker at the reunion was Meyer Harrison, who gave an enthusiastic description of his 17 years at Kibbutz Romath Yoh- anan in Palestine. Harrison, a UHS graduate, said that the Kibbutz has grown from a group of 40 men and women to about 500, including 150 refugees. Mrs. Ben L. Goode, Max Meck- eer and Mrs. Maurice Floch were appointed members of the schol- arship committee.
