Z-Day Canvass Set
.:for This Sunday
With hundreds of new mem-
bers enrolling through the mails,
-the Zionist Organization of De-
-troit will climax its membership
drive with a "Z Day" house-to-
house canvass of the Jewish
community this Sunday.
Morris M. Jacobs, president of
the Detroit Zionists, pointed out
that while recent polls showed
nearly 90 per cent of American
Jewry opposed Britain's barring
of the gates of Palestine to un-
limited Jewish immigration and
favored the establishment of a
commonwealth there;
Jewish
they could make the weight of
their opinion felt only through
active enrollment within the
ranks of Zionist groups.

Norman wrote a letter to A. J.
Lachover and Joseph Haggai,
two of his Hebrew School teach-
ers, of which the following is an
excerpt:
To my mind the Hebrew
school has always occupied a
more personal relationship in my
development than the public
schoo 1. In the latter school
the student is prepared to meet
general problems facing all
Americans; in the Hebrew
School the student is prepared
to meet problems which are
unique to him as a Jew and
which he will be forced to face
whether he wants.to or not.
"With my Jewish background
I feel that. as I leave home, fam-

as possible to go forth and retain,
nevertheless, my identity and

melting pot that is America."
Norman also gave a contribu-
tion to the Scholarship Fund of
