Dr. Bernard Speaks
At State Committee
On DP Immigration

The Michigan Committee on
Immigration Policy for Displaced
Persons, an organization repre-
sentative of Detroit and state-
wide groups, was inaugurated on
Wednesday when Dr. William
Bernard, secretary of the National
Citizens Committee on Displaced
Persons, addressed a meeting in
the YMCA here.
Dr. Bernard is associated with
Earle G. Harrison, dean of the
Law School - of the University of
Pennsylvania and chairman of
the National Citizens Committee
on Displaced Persons .
The Michigan committee, of
which Mrs. Thomas M. Weber,
chairman of the Detroit chapter
of the Women's International
League is temporary chairman, is
endeavoring to bring before Con-
gress the views of representative
groups in Michigan with respect
to t.ie critical situation facing
displaced persons in Europe. It
is puinted out by Mrs. Weber that
some 850,000 persons of various
nationalities in Europe cannot re-
turn to their homelands because
of social and political upheavals.
Specifically, the Michigan Com-
mittee requests the unused
quotas of the war years be used
to facilitate the entry of displaced
persons, and that priority in
granting visas should be given
to those now in DP camps.
Mrs. Weber said response to
the organizing committee has
been gratifying and organizations
representing large segments of
the population had indicated their
sympathy with the purpose of the
Michigan Committee.
Encouraging messages pledging
wholehearted support to the pro-
gram for the assignation of avail-
able visas for DPs have been
received from Congressmen Din-
gell and Sadowski.

May we take this opportunity
to thank you and your staff for
the cooperatiOn you gave the

James B. Webber Jr., our cam-

campaign leaders have gone out
of their way to tell us how won-
derful they think ,the publicity,
was this year. Many of the volun-
teer solicitors have commented
on the publicity, too.
Your efforts, and those of your
staff helped to make these and
many other favorable reports
possible. We thank you sincerely
for your cooperation and we hope
you will continue to keep your
readers informed of the good
work done all year round by Red
Feather services.
Cordially,
