Knows World Situation

Few Americans have had such
opportunities for understanding
the world situation as Mr. Mow-
r•r. lie is familiar with all the
countries of Europe and has
'worked in most of them. He has
spent years in France, Germany,
and Italy, and speaks the lan-
guages of these countries. He
has worked in Britain and twice
spoken to la rgcy 'Mains of mem-
bers of the British Parliament in
committee rooms at the House of
Commons. He has visited Russia
and twice been to the Far East
for extended trips. He covered
World War I. the beginning of
the Spanish Civil War. and one
phase of the war in China. He
predicted, in 1923, that Mussolini
would make trouble for the
world unless speedily squashed;
in 1933 that Adolf Hitler was
a new war; in
- hell-bent" on
1936 that Japan was about to
start on the effort to dominate
the Far East.
Mr. Mowrer returned to this
country in November, 1941, just
before Pearl Harbor. He cov-
ered the first year of World
War II in France and watched
the French collapse at Paris,
Tours, and Bordeaux.
