Nerves War in Palestine
Stirs Universal Protests
(Continued from Page 1)
Demands are increasing in many quarters that the United
Nations step in to solve the problem.
Former Undersecretary of State Sumner Welles, who has been
Urging that the UN take over the administration of Palestine in
view of Great Britain's failure to effect peace in the territory, re-
iterated on Sunday his demand that an international trusteeship
council be created to handle the problem and to remove restrictions
upon Jewish immigration. It became known, however, that Britain
will apply to the UN in September for trusteeship over Palestine.
Meantime, with a complete year drawing to a close since Presi-
Llent.Truman made his request—on Aug. 31, 1945—for the immediate
admission of 100,000 displaced Jews into Palestine, Jewish communi-
ties throughout the U. S. have arranged- for public meetings for this
Saturday and Sunday , as a reminder to President Truman of his
pledges and as a demand that these promises. be honored by Great
Britain.
Protest Rally at Shaarey Zedek Saturday
In Detroit, the rally will be held this Saturday night at the
Shaarey Zedek. Rabbis Morris Adler 0 and Leon Feuer will be the
speakers.

Jewish Agency leaders have indicated that they- are prepared
to meet with Palestinian Arabs to seek a solution to their mutual
problem, but they are opposed to Arab states outside of Palestine
joining in the negotiations.
The reported resignation from the Jewish Agency executive - of
Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, president of the Zionist Organization of
America, has aroused much speculation regarding the future course
of political events affecting Palestine. Dr. Silver, whose resignation
is said to result from sharp disagreement with Dr. Nahum Gold-
mann and other Agency leaders over the line to be followed on
British proposals, refused to comment on the report and announced
"that all statements will have to cOme /from the Jewish Agency
Executive."

22, with the airing in court of
the facts about the Mufti.
Zvi Goldfarb, of Tel Aviv,
brought about circumvention of
the censor's ban by hurling a
stone at an Arab bus, carrying a
picture of the Mufti. Charged
with disorderly conduct, in his de-
fense he enumerated the crimes
committed by the Mufti against
the Allies and the Jews. He
charged the Mufti was responsible
for the extermination of 6,000,000
Jews in Europe, and was now
seeking to re-enter Palestine to
resume his war against the Jews.
The Arab chauffeur said he had
never heard about the slaughter
of Europe's Jews.
Judge Ezioni said the display
of the Mufti's picture in windows
of buses and shops is a provoca-
tion to all Jews. He fined Gold-
farb one pound in view of the ex-
tenuating circumstances. Report-
ing the evidence presented in
court, the Palestine press for the
first time carried the full story
about the Mufti.
