IJews in Poland Want to Get Out NOW!

Death of 40 Jews in Kielce Follows False Rumor
by Child; Pogrom Blamed on Anders' Fol-
lowers; 63 Already Arrested

"We want to get out of Poland and stay
out!"

This is the cry of spokesmen for the 100,000
surviving Jews in Poland whose lives are en-
dangered by the underground anti-Semitic pro-
fascist movement which is defying efforts of the
existing government to suppress terrorism.
• The death of 40 Jews in Kielce, in a pogrom
which resulted from the spread of a false rumor
by a 9-year-old P olish youngster, Henryk
Blaszczyk, that Jews were killing Poles, has
brought forth a concerted effort. in Poland to up-
root the fascist movement of the Polish under-
ground NSZ party. •
Authorities already have arrested and placed
on trial 63 persons.
A one-hour country-wide strike, . originally
called in Poland to protest British attacks on

throughout Poland.
Charges have been made that those respon-
sible for the Kielce pogrom are followers of Gen.
Wladislaw Anders who commanded the Polish
Second Corps in Italy and who opposes the
present Polish regime. Great Britain has been
planning to admit 100,000 of Anders' soldiers into
England and there has been some talk - of settl-
ing Anders' soldiers in Palestine. and Trans-
j ordania.
It is estimated that 1,000 Jews already have
been murdered in Poland, by anti-Semites, since
the end of the war.

On the gangplank of the SS.
Marine. Flasher, loading Jewish
refugees at Bremerhaven, Ger-
many, for immigration into the
United States, 10-year-old Miriam
Zemel, Polish war orphan, stopped
to catch her breath. She and her
uncle were going to America, to a
land ‘.here they could forget the
horrors of Nazi brutality, the hun-
ger, the rags and the years of-hid-
ing they had endured.
As she rested her frail little arm
on the railing of the gangplank,
anothe passenger -passed Miriam.
He stopped too—and stared. Then
he called to Herbert Katzki, JDC
director in Germany, who was

"I think I know this girl. I
think it was her father who spoke
to me about her in Beyreuth only

him. And he thinks she is dead!"
Miriam was taken off the ship.
The man from Bayreuth was
brought to see her. And in the
local JDC office at Bremerhaven
a few days later, the fantastic hap -
pened. Little Miriam, who thought
she had no parents, was reunited
with her father, who thought he
had no daughter. At his insis-
