WASHINGTON, (JTA)—President Truman said that the Jewish .National Party, and
Secretary of State Byrnes and Prime Minister Attlee were relinquished the chairmanship of

His resignation came as a re-
cision can be reached.

The P r e si d e n t's statement
came in reply to a question as
to why there has been so much
delay in carrying out the recom-
mendation of the committee. He
pointed out that he had recom-
mended the admission of 100,000
several months ago.
An authoritative source here
said that the U. S. has offered
to transport the 100,000 Jews to
Palestine from displaced camps
in Germany, and to aid in their
resettlement, provided Great
Britain admits the Jews.
This government is prepared
also to offer technical and fin-
ancial assistance in the rehabil-
itation of the displaced Jews, but
does not consider this the major
problem.
It is understood -that Prime
Minister Attlee, in discussion
with the U. S. government, never
raised the question of disarming
the resistance forces in Palestine,
and therefore withdrawal of
this reported condition by the
British, as a prerequisite to per-
mitting entrance of the 100,000

a written reply to Samuel
, Silverman, Laborite member of
the House of Commons. He
pointed out that the British gov-
ernment is pledged not to enter
any commitment regarding the
future of Palestine until it has
consulted Arabs and Jews.
The fact that the Jewish
Agency and the Arab • Higher
Committee of Palestine gave
evidence before the Anglo-Am-
erican inquiry committee is no
reason for omitting them from
the list of governments and
organizations which are being
consulted in accordance with
this pledge, Bevin said.

Britain Pressing U. S.
To Voice Opposition
J E R U S A LEM, (JTA)—The
British government is pressing
upon the government of the
United States to accept a num-
ber of important conditions fol-
lowing which Britain would be
ready to agree to the admission
of 100,000 displaced Jews to
Palestine. The three main con-
ditions are:
The U. S. should declare—
simultaneous with the an-
nouncement of the admission
of the 100,000 Jews—its op-
position to the ultimate estab-
lishment of a Jewish state in
Palestine.
The U. S., after the admis-
sion of the 100,000 Jews, should
not press for further Jewish
immigration to Palestine.
The U. S. should undertake
to cooperate with Britain in
combatting "illegal immigra-
tion" to Palestine.
Reliable sources indicated that
the Soviet government, although
refraining from making its at-
titude towards the Palestine is-
sue known, is against converting
Palestine into a purely Arab
state, because this would amount
to undivided British rule in the
Middle East, whereas Jewish im-
migration to Palestine involves
international interests and inter-
national control of Palestine.
Such control would also open
the way for Soviet participation
in shaping the fate of this part
of the world, Moscow feels.

Senators Score Failure
to Implement Report
WASHINGTON, (JTA) — The
failure of the British Govern-
ment and State Department to
take steps to carry out the
recommendation of the Anglo-
American inquiry committee that
100,000 Jews be admitted to Pal-
estine immediately was scored
in Congress by several Senators.
Senator Jomes Tunnell, D., of
Delaware, told the Senate that
if the British government had no
intention of permitting these
100,000 Jews to go to Palestine,
it should immediately issue a
clear-cut statement to that effect
"so that there might not be
false hopes aroused and promises
impossible of fulfillment made."
Senator Taft, (R), of Ohio,
reviewed the actions of the U. S.
and British governments with
regard to Jewish immigration
into Palestine, and said he
thought there was no military
problem whatever involved since
"the British have many thousand
of troops in Palestine." He scored
the State Department for "pro-
moting further delay" by asking
arguments from interested
parties.
Senator Wagner, (D.) of New
York, said he was "most con-
cerned about whatever future at-
tempts will be made somewhere
along the line in our Depart-
ment of State again to minimize
and to - whittle down the im-
port of President Truman's stand
and thus to postpone the actual
entry of the 100,000 . Jews into I
Palestine."
Sen. Claude Pepper, (D.) Of
Florida, suggested that the Pal-
estine Mandate be given to the
United Nations trusteeship since
the Arab states are members
and would then feel that they
will have some say in its admin-
istration.
Short statements endorsing the
inquiry committee's recom-
mendation were - also read by
Senators James Mead of New
York. Kenneth Wherry of Neb-
raska, Edwin Johnson of Colo-
rado, Joseph Guffey of Pennsyl-
vania, David Walsh of Mas-

World Union to Meet
In London July 25-30

The first meeting in eight years
of the World Union for Progres-
sive Judaism will be held in Lon.;.
don, July 25 to July 30, Rabbi
David H. Wice of Newark, U. S.
field secretary for the World
Union for Progressive Judaism,
has announced. The general
theme of the conference, at

of the World Union, will preside,
will be "The Task of Progressive .
Judaism in the Post-War World."

Why a Separate
Hadassah Slate?

To insure aur_representatives at the Congress the right of independent

judgment and action on all issues before the Congress.

THE ISSUE IS NOT A JOINT SLATE

Hadassah was ready to go on a joint slate on condition that the Hadassah
delegates be unbound, free to express its views at the Congress as the repre-
sentatives of 200,000 Zionists, the largest Zionist constituency in America with
a record of three decades of magnificent work in Palestine. We were refused
the right of free expression—that is the issue.

WHAT DOES "UNITY" MEAN?

In the Zionist movement, which is a democratic movement, UNITY means
that there is full liberty for every group to express opinions, at all stages of
the discussions, and when the final vote ,is taken, all parties abide by the
majority vote. This is Democracy in action!

HADASSAH IS NOT AN "AUXILIARY" OF THE ZOA

Hadassah is an autonomous, independent organization with its own con-
stitution and its own program of work in Palestine and America. Like other
Zionist groups it subscribes to the fundamental tenet of Zionism—the estab-
lishment of Palestine as a Jewish Commonwealth. HadasSah believes in a
sound, balanced upbuilding program in Palestine. It believes that industry and
agriculture should be developed to their full possibilities; that the interest of
labor should be protected and that the traditional aspects of Jewish religious
life should be fostered. As a GENERAL ZIONIST organization, Hadassah holds
that a combination of all these aspects is vital to a free, modern state.
Hadassah and the ZOA have ONE viewpoint on all major issues. Hadassah had
its awn slate in the last two Congressesand unity of action was not a problem!

Vote the Hadassah Slate

It is the moral duty of EVERY HADASSAH MEMBER AND SHEKEL HOLDER
to go to the polls listed below on Jun e 16th and 17th and cast their vote for
the HADASSAH SLATE thereby expressing our SOLIDARITY and the RIGHT
