Children Tell Their Views on Campaign

Pupils Show Exceptional Understanding

With the School Project under way enlisting the support

of Jewish children in the Allied Jewish Campaign, the
pupils of the Hebrew, Yiddish and Sunday schools of Detroit
are showing exceptional understanding and maturity in their
approach to the problems of their people overseas.

"Of the million and a half Jew-
ish children in Europe before the
war, there remain only 150,000
today. Nine out of every ten
Jewish children died during the
war, while we, the Jewish youth
of America, could do nothing
about it. But now we can do
something to save the lives of
those who remain. We are being
asked to give so that they can
live; for we have so much and
they have so little. The Allied
Jewish Campaign needs the sup-
port of every Jewish youth in
America, to attain its $100,000,000
goal. Let's not let them down.
Remember—"Give and they live;
don't and they die."

Schools, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Morris Dobrushin, 3821 Elmhurst:
"It just isn't fair that we Am-
erican children should have it all
and they should have nothing.
We should give all we can. We
should try to sacrifice our own
pleasures and luxuries and give
to those children who are wait-
ing and hoping for our help. Let
us do it now!"
AGNES SILVERMAN, 12, Bnai

of Dr. and Mrs. Morris Silverman,

"I am sorry to knoW that we
live in a world that permits the
suffering of millions of Jews and
thousands of children deprived of
what we children in America
think . necessary. I am happy that
the Allied Jewish Campaign in
the Jewi - I schools is calling all
children to help the unfortunate
children of Europe with food,
clothing and education. I would
like to appeal to all Jewish
children in Detroit to help in
the present $2,000,000 campaign.
Very close to children's hearts is
the work of the J.D.C. to supply
food, clothing, shelter and ele-
mentary education for our people

in Europe. We are thrilled with
the work of the U.P.A. For this
group will bring them to Pales-
tine. In our school I know that
the campaign will be a success."
ALLAN TRAURIG, Beth Yehu-
dah Day School, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Milton Traurig, 2997 Buena
Vista:
"One of the most important
campaigns of 1946 is the Emer-
gency Allied Jewish Campaign. I
think it is very important to
give to this drive. It is a great
Mitzvah to give. I will tell
you what this drive does.
It
helps to bring our brothers from
Europe to Palestine and America.
It feeds the Jews in Europe. I
think that the children would give
more than 'they are giving if
they would think how important
this drive is. They could stop
going to the show and eating
candy and buying things they
don't need. I hope you will all
give to this important drive."
SHLOMO SPERKA, 12, Detroit

YeshiVath Chachmey Lublin, son
of Rabbi and Mrs. Joshua Sperka,
1938 Tuxedo:
"Now that the war is over and
so many Jews have been killed
in Europe, it is the duty of all of
the Jews of America to do
something for the remnants
who have escaped the Nazis.
They have no place to go, not
even a roof over their heads, no
clothes on their backs, and
nothing to eat. We have every-
thing we need! It would mean
a lot to those few left in Europe
if each of us would give. We
would not miss it!"
MARTIN E. CITRIN, 17, Tem-
ple Israel Religious Echool, son
of Mr. and Mrs. Jacob A. Citrin,
509 W. Grixdale:
"I believe we should help
Europe's Jews because we now
remain their only hope of salva-
tion. We must help them out of
respect for ourselves and because
of our duty to our fellow-Jews.
We should give not just because
we are members of the same re-
ligion but because they, and we,
are members of the same human
race. Temple Israel's students
can be counted upon to do their
share."

Sternists Justify
Tel Aviv Attacks

By J. L. TELLER
JERUSALEM, (JPS)
T h e
Fighters for Freedom for Israel,
better known as the Stern group,
posted announcements through-
out Palestine, which were read
by thousands of persons, denying
the Government's allegation that
soldiers killed in the Tel Aviv
military parking lot, April 25,
were massacred "in cold blood."
In their usual highly eloquent
style the Sternites describe the
action as a battle of armed
against armed. They boast that
military armored cars withdrew
in fear of exploding mines, that
no Sternites were wounded in
the exchange of fire with police,
and moreover, that they captured
all weapons in the parking lot
and not merely • 12 rifles, as
the Government reported. -
They state, "We have not shot
children as British soldiers have
done; we have not tortured pris-
oners as they have done; we have
not sunk a vessel as the Struna
was sunk. We only fought it out
with a superior force guilty of
all these crimes."
Some Facts
While condemning the Stern-
ites' acts one should soberly take
into account the following: their
courage in planning and execut-
ing such attacks in a land in
which imperial might is concen-
trated; the subsequent hooligan-
ism of British soldiers in various
colonies, which is explained as
revenge against the Tel Aviv in-
cidents, but which really is a
climax of the general misbehav-
ior of British troops, character-
ized by nearly daily fatalities in
Palestine from recklessly driven
military vehicles. Naturally, this
does not mean that Jews are the
only auto casualties, but it shows
the irresponsibility of British
troops in foreign lands.
The Hebrew press points out
that the Government must take
the same measures against the
soldiers' rioting in Jewish colo-
nies as against Jewish terrorists.

year. Perhaps the reason is due
to the emphasis placed on the
need as shown by our teachers.
The least I can do is to give. If
I were old enough to go to
Europe, I would want to assist in
many other ways."
