director of Hillel Foundation at

the brother of Rabbi Eliezer Levi
of Bnai Moshe, who served as
U. S. army chaplain for four
years, most of it in the Southwest'
Pacific.
In his address on May 1, Dr.
Levi will relate his experiences
in the European zone of opera-
tions, where he ministered to
Jewish servicemen in the Cana-
dian army.
The newly elected officers and
directors of the club will be in-
stalled at this meeting. The pub-
lic is invited.

Detain New Transport of .Jewish
Exiles in Italy

ROME (JTA)—A transport of
116 Jews, said to be en route to
Palestine, was detained by local
authorities at the Udine railroad
station, in Northern Italy. They
were taken off the train although
they were in possession of rail-
way tickets to Trieste.

the recent growth of public inter-
est in the study of the Hebrew
language, the Histadruth Ivrith
of America, devoted to the
spreading of Hebrew Culture, is
inaugurating a correspondence
course in elementary Hebrew to
begin early in June.
The course will be based on
Prof. Zvi Scharfstein's recent
book, "Hebrew Self-Taught." The
course itself will be conducted by
Simcha Rubinstein, former edu-
cational director of Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, Detroit.
