Dr. Weizrnann Lays
Cornerstone for
Sereni House

GIVAT BRENNER (Palcor)—
Before a large gathering, includ-
ing representatives of Jewish Na-
tional institutions, politic a 1
parties and the press, Dr. Chaim
Weizmann, president of the
Jewish. Agency and the World
Zionist Organization, laid the
cornerstone for the Haim Enzo
Sereni House, to be erected here
in memory of Enzo Sereni, Ital-
ian-born Jew of Palestine, who
died at Dachau. Sereni was cap-
tured by the Nazis while on a
mission for the Allies behind
enemy lines in Italy.
The Sereni House, created by
the Palestine committee of Keren
Hayesod and Kibbutz Hameu-
chad, will contain a collection of
Palestine flora and fauna and an
exhibit illustrating 1,000 years of
cultural achievements of Italian
Jewry.
The cornerstone ceremony was
opened, on behalf of the Kib-
butz, by Eliezer Gravitsky.
Dr. Weizmann, in a brief ad-
dress, said he knew the Sereni
family prior to the granting of
the Balfour Declaration, and that
the death of Enzo Sereni robbed
him of a dear friend. Sereni's
son, Daniel, handed Dr. Weiz-
mann the trowel and pail of
cement which he poured on a
large Jerusalem stone which will
serve as part of the foundation.

Ribbentrop Tells
of Anti-Jewish
Acts at Trial

Ex-Nazi F o r e i g n Minister
Breaks Down, But Denies
Personal Anti-Semitism

NUREMBERG, (JTA)—Former
Nazi Foreign Minister Ribben-
trop broke down on April 3 un-
der the cross examination of
French prosecutor Edgar Faure
at the International Military
Tribunal and admitted participa-
ting in anti-Jewish persecutions.
He supported the Nazi persecu-
tion and elimination of Jews as
a measure to limit sabotage and
espionage, Ribbentrop said, in-
sisting that personally, he was
not anti-Semitic. He evidenced
anger when confronted by docu-
mentary proof that he had re-
buked Mussolini for the latter's
lenient policy toward the Jews of
southern France. He admitted
the charge, however.
Ribbentrop also admitted that
he acted as an anti-Semitic en-
voy to foreign governments and
that he knew of Hitler's plan to
deport the remnants of Europe's
Jews to Northern Africa and the
island of Madagascar.
The British prosecutor, S i r
David Maxwell Fyfe, forced an
admission from the Nazi diplo-
mat that he owned homes located

Funeral of Slain Jew

WARSAW, (JTA)—The funer-
al of a Jew murdered this week
by Polish fascists in Katowice
was converted into a demonstra-
tion against anti-Semitic terror.
Representatives of Jewish com-
munities from many cities in
Silesia, as well as delegates from
Jewish youth groups and from
Polish political patsies attended
the funeral. The murdered Jew,
Aron Milgrom, was a veteran of
the notorious Oswiecim camp. All
speakers at his grave emphasized
the need for more rigorous meas-
ures to curb anti-JeWish terror-
ism in Poland which is attempt-
ing to drive Jews who survived
the Nazis out of Polish territory.
