Recognizing h i s outstanding
work in connection with the
Army Ordnance, the Legion of
Merit was presented to Lt.-Col.
Ervin Greenbaum, 2043 Glynn
Ct., at a ceremony held Thurs-
day afternoon in the National
Bank Bldg. The award was made
by Col. Quinton Adams, chief of
the Detroit ordnance district, and
the citation which accompanied
the honor referred in high terms
to the outstanding work Col.
Greenbaum had done during the
last three years in charge of con-
tract termination activities.
From 1943 to 1946 Col. Green-
baum s e r v e d as officers in
charge of settlement of 4,166
terminated war contracts involv-
ing $4,380,000,000 in ordnance
personnel, and developed estab-
lished and supervised procedures
for settlement of termination
claims. In 1945 he was promoted
to his present rank. Previously,
for a year, he served in armour
plate conversion program, deal-
ing with automobile spring and
bumper manufacturing concerns.
After five and a half years'
service, Col. Greenbaum was
separated from the army March
5, and now is a member of the
Ordnance Department Reserve.
He is married to the former Doris
Lipson, and they have three
children, Alice, Marianne and
Ruth. He is an engineering grad-
uate of the U. of M., and the
United Hebrew Schools, and is a
member of Shaarey Zedek Con-
gregation.

MR. AND MRS. ROBERT AXELROD, who received their med-
ical degrees from Wayne University Medical School last Monday.
Married three years ago, they continued their studies together.
Mrs. Axelrod is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Young. Mr.-
Axelrod is the sod - of Dr. and Mrs. M. L. Axelrod, formerly of
Detroit, now of St. Petersburg, Fla.

Samuel Kaplan 'Voice'
Of 'Yeshivah Bochur'
Saturdays over WJLB

For the past 13 weeks the 'De-
troit Jewish Radio . audience has
heard the voice of "The Yeshiva
Bochur" presented by Samuel
Kaplan, every Saturday at 8:35
p. m. on Altman's Jewish hour on
Station WJLB.
Last Sunday, Kaplan made a
personal appearance at a recep-
tion in his honor by Yeshivath
Chachmey Lublin, Linwood and
Elmhurst.
Kaplan, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Pincus Kaplan of 3796 Tuxedo,
studied for the rabbinate at
Yeshiva College in New York.
Previous to that he was a stu-
dent at the College of the City of
Detroit, now Wayne University.
He is a graduate accountant.
His radio feature is presented
under the title "The Yeshiva
Bochur" on station - WEVD, New
York, the largest Jewish station in
the 'U. S. The Columbia Tea Co.
of New York sponsor both New
York and Detroit programs. In
Detroit time is devoted on the
program to Yeshivath Chachemy
Lublin.
"The Yeshiva Bochur," a reci-

stories.

The Women's Emergency Food
Committee will hold a shower
and card party Sunday evening

Mrs. A. Freedman, chairman, has
issued an invitation to the public.
Canned and dehydrated food,
candy, soap and cigarets will

ing sent weekly from Detroit for

A Detroiter who retired from business 30 years ago and has

He is Moses Weiswasser, dean

At a meeting of parents of the
David W. Simons Branch of the
United Hebrew Schools, held at
the home of Mrs. Harry Schwartz
on Sturtevant Ave., the founda-
tion was laid for the Hebrew Par-
ent-Teachers' Association of the
David W. Simons School.
The following officers were
elected: Mrs. H. Schwartz, presi-
dent; Mrs. S. Cohen, vice-presi-
dent; Mrs. J. Sklar, secretary;
Mrs. J. Sabbath, corresponding
secretary; Mrs. S. Edelman, chair-
man of publicity, bulletin and
program; Mrs. David Novetsky
and Mrs. Bernard Garfinkel, com-
mittee members; Mrs. P. Chado-
roff, chairman of telephone squad.
As its first project, the group,
in cooperation with the staff,
sponsored a Purim program for
children and parents of the David
W. .Sinions school on Shushan
Purim, March 18. The program
included community singing di-
rected by Abraham Schachter and
recitations by Jean Rabotnick,
Diane Bassin and Herbert Edel-
man. Mrs. Edelman extended
greetings. Miss Sarah Kahan, who
recently arrived here from Pales-
tine to direct children's activi-
ties in the United States, was the
guest speaker. Joseph Haggai was
chairman. A. J. Lachover is prin-
cipal of the branch.
A meeting of the executive
committee of this group was held
March 21 at the home of • Mrs.
Peter Chodoroff, and plans were
formulated for a Passover cele-
bration at a membership meeting
last Thursday. Henry Feinberg
spoke on "Parent-Child Relation-
ship."
