Shapero, Harvard Grad,
Wins Gershwin Contest

NEW YORK—Harold Shapero,
25-year - old Harvard graduate
from Newton Center, Mass., has
been voted the winner of the
second annual George Gershwin
Memorial contest, sponsored by
Victory Lodge of Bnai Brith, in
cooperation ' with Bnai Brith
Hillel Foundations, to stimulate
contemporary American compo-
sers and to help discover new
musical talent, it has been an-
nounced here by Lenoard Bern-
stein, composer and conductor,
chairman of the judges' com-
mittee.

`Last Chance' Producer •
Must Leave Switzerland

GENEVA, (JTA) — Leopold
Lindberg, an Austrian-born , Jew
and producer of the Swiss film,
"The Last Chance," has been
ordered to leave Switzerland by
July 15. Until his departure,
Lindberg is forbidden to lecture,
make broadcasts, or produce -new
films without prior authorization
from the police. The Swiss press
is criticizing his expulsion.
"The Last Chance," a box-of-
fice hit in London and which is
being exhibited widely in the
U. S.,'deals with the problems of
. refugees of various nationalities
fleeing before the Nazi police
and border patrols.

Mr. and Mrs. Bayre Levin an-
nounce the Bar Mitzvah of their
son, Peter Moritz, to be observed
at services of Temple Israel on
Friday evening, Feb. 22, At the
Art Institute. The Levins will be
hosts in the Bar Mitzvah's honor
at their home, 1470 Edison, from
7 to 9 p. m. on Sunday, Feb. 24.

The marriage of Miss Shirlee
Geraldine Teitel, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Max Teitel of 1975-Tay-
lor, to .J. Gecirge Ingber, son of
Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Ingber of
1777 Plymouth Road, Ann Arbor,
was performed on Feb. 21, at
the Shaarey Zedek.
The bride's 'sister, Mrs. Albert
Stern, was matron of honor. The
bridegroom's brother, Abe Ing-
ber, was best man.
Mr. Ingber, a • student at the
University, of Michigan, is a
member of Sigma Alpha Mu.
The newlyweds will make their
home at 2105 Stadium Blvd., Ann
Arbor.

Hebrew Ladies' Aid Society is
among the groups that have won
an important place• among those
who have rendered service to„ the
Avp,uso program in Detroit.
This society, with a member-
ship of 200, organized to aid the
needy, has established an excel-
lent record in the sale of war
'bonds, in saving 1,200 pounds of:
waste fats and through its parti-
cipation in the Red Cross, War
Chest and other drives.
Mrs. Helen Auslander is war
efforts chairman, Mrs. Helen Ros-
enthal is war, bond chairman and
Mrs. Julia Ring is president.
This society has sponsored ser-
vicemen's brunches at the Jewish
Center USO Lounge to which they
contributed a silex outfit. The
