"Let Them Be Heard"
By SARAH PHILKA
If you listen in the night
To the whimpering wind,
You will hear the tremor
'Of ghost-like voices—
Calling, always calling.
Haunting—penetrating voices
That stir the sweet serenity
Of forgetfullness,
When the spirit of the world
Is deep - in slumber.
Voices—voices in the night
That waken you,
And leave you wondering,
Almost frantic—
Because the voices seem familiar,
And you try answering—
But the voices keep calling.
The vibrating voices,
That waken you,
And leave you wondering.
And the breath
Of the whimpering wind,
Steals into your room,
And hovers about you
Like a thief in hiding.
And you wait—
Trying desperately' to remember.
And suddenly it. comes to you,
And you stop wondering—
You know that the voices
Are the plaintive cries
Of your people—
That keep calling to you
In the night!

ARAB HIGHER COMMITTEE MEETING TO REJECT PROPOSAL
The above photo shows mem-
bers of the Arab Higher Com-
mittee who met in Jerusalem
last week to reject the order of
British High Commissioner Sir
Alan Cunningham for the admis-
sion of 1,500 Jews a month pend-
ing the findings of the Anglo-
American inquiry commission.
These are the men who called
a general strike against Jewish
rights in Palestine a week ago
Saturday. It was a well chosen
day and the press services were
naive in announcing that every-
thing was at a standstill in the
Holy City—the reason being ob-
vious, that Jerusalem with a Jew-
ish •majority, is always at a stand-
still on our Sabbath when all
business is at a standstill.
Arabs Break Pledge To Bevin
For Limited Immigration.
CAIRO, (JTA)—Definite as-
surances of Arab approval of
limited Je4,Tish immigration into
Palestine during the four-month
period of the labors of the Anglo-
American Inquiry Committee,
were given to Foreign Secretary
Bevin, at London last October,
by Azzam Bey, secretary general
of the Arab League Council, it
was learned here this week.
The following two reasons are
given for the -failure to fulfill
the pledge: Azzam Bey was un-
able to persuade members of the
Arab League, particularly Ibn
Saud, to abide by his promise to
Bevin. The Palestine Arab High-
er Committee remained adamant
in its opposition to any immigra-
tion by Jews.

sist on the inadmissibility" of the
British Government's intention to
bring about the permanent sep-
aration of Transjordan from Pal-
estine and. its recognition as an
independent state.
In their message they assailed
Britain's contemplated action as
"another unilateral revision of
the Palestine Mandate and a new
.attempt to establish a fait ac-
compli in disregard of Britain's
obligations toward the members
of the League of Nations under
the Mandate, toward the U. S.
under the Anglo-American Con-

United Nations under article 80
of the Charter. This comes with
particularly bad grace now that,
at the reguest of the British
