ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY
Maj. Saul C. Stein is on terminal leave in Detroit after 45
months of active duty in the army. He spent 21 months on the
islands of Attu. Maj. Stein and his wife, the former Ruthe Anne
Bassin, are at home at 18905 Cherrylawn.
The Misses Sadie and Sarah Goldberg of 2681 Fleet St., after
returning from Chicago, left for Miami Beach, Fla., where they
were guests at the Bancroft Hotel for the holiday period.
Arthur Doctor of Calvert ave., who has recently received his
discharge after 31/2 years in the service, two of which were in the
South Pacific, has left on a motor trip to the West coast.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Edelson of 17370 Wisconsin left for New
York for a fortnight's stay at Hotel New Yorker.
AOM 3/C Jack Sussman, who is stationed at Bonana River,
Fla., spent his 13-day holiday leave with his family at 2283 W.
Euclid.
Dr. and Mrs. Samuel Glassman of Chicago Blvd. left on Friday
to spend the remaining winter months in Miami Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Louis H. Marks will be hostess at a tea at her home, 18309
Sorrento, on Saturday, Jan. 19, from 2 to 5, honoring Miss Loree
Franovitz, March bride-elect. No cards.
Mrs. Harold J. Baskin of Cherrylawn Ave. has left for a week's
visit in Chicago.
Dr. and Mrs. Dennis Barkoff (Rose Schecter) of Windsor are
visiting for a few weeks with their family in Los Angeles.
The Misses Florence Naimark, Diana Gordon, Leona Levenson
and Molly Yuris were guests in New York during the past two
weeks.
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Meyers, 2714 Hazelwood, will hold open
house Sunday, Jan. 20, honoring their son, Norman, who is home
after three years' service in the ETO. Friends and relatives are
invited.
Miss Harriet Shear, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Shear of
1558 Cortland, is spending a two weeks vacation in Washington
and New York City.
Mr. and Mrs. Hyman Mitnick of 3019 Leslie will have open
house in honor of their son, S/Sgt. Herbert, who has recently been
discharged from the army, on Sunday, Jan. 13. No cards.
Mrs. M. E. Bachman entertained 25 guests for lunch at Canter-
bury House last Saturday in honor of her daughter Eleanor's 16th
birthday.
Mr. and Mrs. Edward A. Josephson of Ohio Ave., left Thursday
for a four-Week stay in Miami, Fla.
The N. A. Borinsteins of W. Outer Dr. entertained the
Gruskin family at a dinner and card party on Dec. 23. Mrs. B.
Shapiro of Philadelphia was guest of honor.
Mr. and Mrs. Elias C. Rubenstein will hold open house on
Sunday, Jan. 13, from 2 to 6, in honor of their son-in-law, Lt. Sey-
mour Barrer, who recently returned from overseas. Lt. Barrer,
a bombardier, flew 33 missions over Germany with the 9th Air
Force. A family gathering will take place in the evening.
Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Levin of Strathcona Dr. left Thursday
for -a stay in Palm Springs, Calif.
Dr. and Mrs. Harvey Lynn of Longfellow Ave. have left for
Memphis, Tenn., where they plan to make their home.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Cohane of Highland Ave. have returned
from a stay in Miami Beach, Fla.
Mrs. Alex Cohen of Calvert Ave. left on Tuesday for East
Orange, N. J. to visit her brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs.
Samuel Grosner.
Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Winkelman of Port Huron left last Saturday
for a stay in Miami Beach, Fla.
Louis James Rosenberg has moved from Calvert Ave. and is
now residing at the Belcrest Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Alex Baruch of W. Philadelphia Ave. have returned
from Chicago where they visited her mother, Mrs. Molly Bayles.
Mrs. Milford Pregerson of Byron Ave. left for New Yotk City to
visit with her husband, SK 2/c Pregerson, whose ship, the Mt.
Vernon, is now in port.
Miss Julia Klein and her father, Aaron Klein, of Boston Blvd.,
spent the last week-end in Lorain, 0., where they attended the Bar
Mitzvah of Mr. Klein's nephew, Warren Klein.
Mr. and Mrs. Sol A. Wolff of Lawrence Ave. had as their guests
last week-end, their son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph
Moses II of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Sheldon Ackerman, Mr. and Mrs.
