Move to Retrieve Nazi Plunder
Of Cultural Resources of Jews
To facilitate the recovery of
historically valuable books, docu-
ments and museum objects taken
from Jewish homes and institu-
tions by the Germans during the
war, the World Jewish Congress
has formed an international Com-
mittee for Recovery of Cultural
Property, composed of some of
the most outstanding Jewish per-
sonalities in the world.
The committee will promote a
thorough search for the stolen
materials and return them to the
original owners. In cases where
the owners have not survived the
war, the recovered materials will
be presented to the Hebrew Uni-
versity in Palestine as trustee.
The World Jewish Congress
will be represented on the com-
mittee by Dr. Stephen S. Wise,
president, and 'Dr. Nahum Gold-

Last Jew From
Poland Exposes
Nazi Terrorism
Adolf Folkman's Story, As
Related to Stefan Szende,
Published in the U. S.
Stefan Szende is the author of
"The Promise Hitler Kept," . a
soul-stirring book recently issued
by Roy Publishers, 25 W. 45th
St., New York, 19, N. Y.
But the narrator, based on
whose experiences the story is
revealed to the world, is Adolf
Folkman,—the last Jew to escape
from Poland.
It is • a - true story—backed up
by dates, places, names and actual
experiences encountered by a
man who has gone thro-ugh the
tortures of hell to be able to re-
late the tragedy incorporated in
the Szende book.
An Eye-Witness
All through the Nazi .bombard-
ment, Folkman lived in Lwow.
He was a _ n eye-witness to un-
provoked aggression against Po-
land. He was there to see the
arrival of the Russians and their
treatment of the people, as com-
pared with the cruelties - of the
Germans. - -
There is a see-saw story—of
German re-occupation of the
territory, of the reduction of the
Lwow Jewish population of 140,- .
000 to a mere fraction. The
Gestapo's workings are described;
and Folkman tells how he escap-
ed the clutches of the German
murderers. in Lwow on July 15,.
1943. He traveled on, after plac-
ing his family in comparative
safety, to Warsaw, where he join-
ed the underground movement
and found employment with the,
Todt Organization,—upon secur-
ing false 'Aryan identification
papers.
Sent to Norway
He was sent to Norway, became
foreman of a gang of Polish slave
laborers, and later managed to
escape to Sweden where . he re-
lated his story to the well-known
Hungarian journalist, __ Stefan
Szende. Based on his story,
Szende wrote "The Promise Hit-
ler Kept"—a volume that should
be in the hands-_of everyone who
desires the complete truth about
Germany's rape of Poland.
In Sweden, 'The Promise Hit-
ler Kept" was published under
the title "The Last Jew From
Poland" and was a marked suc-
cess. The American edition
deserves similar wide circulation
because of its ch allenge to
humanitarians and its expose of
barbarities which 'have •no place
in a sane world.
