Dr. Glazer and Dr. Franklin
to Preach Sermons in the
Auditorium, Chapel
Temple Israel will conduct its
High Holy Day services in the
auditorium of the Detroit Insti-
tute of Arts beginning New
Year's Eve, Friday night, Sept. 7,
at 8 o'clock.
Cantor Robert S. Truman will
be supported by a choir directed
by Dan Frohman. Karl W. Hass
will preside at the organ.
Rabbi Leon Fram has chosen
as the theme of his New Year
Eve sermon "Happy New World."
At the New Year morning ser-
vice, Saturday, Sept. 8, at 10,
Rabbi Fram will preach on "The
Destiny of Israel".
The choir of Temple Israel
will broadcast two programs on
"The Music of the Jewish New
Year" • and on "The Music of the
Day of Atonement" over WWJ.
These broadcasts have become a
goodwill tradition in Detroit.
Cantor Robert S. Tulman will
be suported by the choir and
accompanied by Haas at the stu-
dio Organ. Rabbi Fram will de-
liver historical and interpreta-
tive comments on the musical
compositions.
Temple Beth El has arranged
three services for the coming
High Holy Days.
Dr. B. Benedict Glazer will
conduct the services and preach
the sermons in the Main Audi-
torium. The musical program
will be rendered by the Temple
Quartet under the direction of
Jason H. Tickton. Admission to
the Main Auditorium will be for
members and their families only.
Supplementary services in the
Brown Memorial Chapel will be
conducted by Dr. Leo M. Frank-
line who also will preach the
sermons. A professional quartet
and organist will render the
musical program. These serv-
ices are open to the public. Cards
of admission are available at
the Temple office.
. Students of the Religious
School will conduct the Chil-
dren's Services in the Main
Auditorium on Rosh Hashanah
afternoon at 2:30, and Yom Kip-
pur afternoon at 2. Dr. Glazer
will preach the sermons. -
Men and women in the armed
forces will be admitted in the
Main Auditorium and the Brown
Memorial Chapel. No admission
cards will be required.
Volume II of the Union Prayer
Book which contains the services
for Rosh Hashanah and Yom
Kippur is used at the Temple
services and can be purchased
at the Temple office.

JASON H. TICKTON
The appointment of Jason H.
Tickton as music director and
organist of Temple Beth El was
announced last week by Julian
G. Wolfner, chairman of the
choir committee of the Temple.
Mr. Tickton, who has been af-
filiated with Temple Beth El for
12 years, since 1940 as organist,
is in charge of the Beth El Re-
ligious School's music depart-
ment. He is assistant professor
of music at Wayne University.

Branches of U. H. S. To Conduct Services
Arrangements for the High At Cong. Beth Aaron
Holy Day Services at the Phila-
delphia-Byron, David W. Simons
and the Rose Sittig Cohen Syna-
gogues were completed. The
auditoriums were recently re-
novated and completely rede-
corated.
At the Rose Sittig Cohen the
services will be conducted by
Abraham Schachter and a well
trained choir and by Aisik
Selesny. At the David W. Simons,
Cantor Max Pearl and Rev.
Solomon Chinitz will officiated.
At the Philadelphia-Byron Syna-
gogue, the Rev. David Rine and
the Rev. Rachowsky will of-
ficiate.
The Synagogue Committee of
the United Hebrew Schools,
Nathan Yaffa, chairman, Morris
Fishman and Isaac Rosenthal,
co-chairmen, urges the public to
obtain their tickets immediately
as the number of seats is limited.

In Synagogues Here
V-J Day services were con-
ducted in Detroit at Temple Beth
El, Temple Israel, Congregation
Shaarey Zedek, Congregation
Bnai Moshe, Congregation Bnai
David and in a number of other
orthodox congregations.
At the Shaarey Zedek, due to
the illness of Rabbi A. M. Hersh-
man, a brief sermon was de-
livered by Fred M. Butzel.
Temple Israel Opens
Religious School Sept. 9
The Religious School of Tem-
ple Israel will resume its ses-
sions Sunday morning, Sept. 9.
The pupils of the 6th, 7th, 8th
and 9th grades, which meet on
Saturday, will resume sessions
on Saturday, Sept. 15. All ses-
sions of the Religious School
are held at the Hampton Public
School, 18460 Warrington Dr.

The new synagogue is accept-

Held in Petoskey
V-J Day services were aranged
at Temple Bnai Israel in Petoskey
by Erwin L. Herman, Student
Rabbi in charge of the congrega-
tion's activities.
Gloria Gordon was the soloist
and Joseph Friedman the pianist.
Bnai Israel is now in its 25th
year. The congregation was or-
ganized by the late Mr. and Mrs.
S. Rosenthal. The Rosenthals
were in business in Petoskey for
66 years. The business is now
operated by Mrs. Rosenthal's sis-
ter, Mrs. Zilla W. Goldstein.
Rabbi Selig Auerbach, of Port
Huron, who was summer rabbi
at Petoskey for two years, has
not officiated there this summer
because of his duties as chaplain
at El Paso, Tex.
Beth El Registering
Religious School Pupils
The office of the Religious
School of Temple Beth El is now
open daily from 9 a. m. to 5 p. m.
for the registration of new
pupils. Parents must accompany
children when registering.
The Religious School conducts
classes from Pre-Kindergarten
through High School.
Opening sessions will be held
Saturday morning, Sept. 15, for
the Junior High department, and
Sunday morning, Sept. 16, for
the Primary, Intermediate and
High School departments.

Rabbi Millgram
Will Officiate at
NW Congregotion
-Rabbi Abraham E. Millgram,
a graduate of the Jewish Theo-
logical Seminary of America and
its Teacher's College, will of-
ficiate and deliver the sermons
at High Hoy Day services of the
degree from the College of the
City of New York; the M. S.
degree from Columbia University
and his Ph. D. degree from
Dropsie College. He has occupied
pulpits in Wilmington, Del., and
Philadelphia, Pa., and has just
completed a term. of office as
director of Hillel Foundation of
Bnai Brith at the University of
Minnesota. For the coming year
he has accepted the post of edu-
cational director of the United
Synagogue of America. He is the
author of "Sabbath, Day of
Delight" and an "Anthology of
Medieval Hebrew Literature."
Cantor Lander, who has the
degree of Rabbi from the Isaac
Elchanan Yeshivah, has taken
graduate work at Columbia
University. He served as cantor
of Northwest Hebrew Congrega-
tion last year.
