change in the British Govern-

DR. JULIAN MORGENSTERN
Indianapolis, makes the declara-
tion that he is not terrified by
the prospect of a Jewish State
in Palestine.
Admitting that at one time he
was a strong anti-Zionist, Dr.
Morgenstern declares in his
statement:
"Today I am definitely non-
Zionist, with, I am very glad to
say, a sympathetic understand-
ing and appreciation of Zionism."
Dr. Morgenstern states that he
will deal with the subject at the
opening of the new term of
Hebrew Union College.
"Up to a few weeks ago," Dr.
Morgenstern said referring to
the Labor Party's victory in
England, "I saw no prospect of
such an actuality. But now the
Commonwealth is not so im-
practicable or unrealizable as it
seemed then."
At the same time, Dr. Morgen-
stern declares that he sees in the
emphasis on Palestine the im-
perilling of the normal develop-
ment of a strictly American
Judaism.

Discrimination Is
Serious in Berlin
LONDON, (JTA)—The London
press carries a report from Ber-
lin stating that surviving German
Jews are finding it difficult to
obtain work in the American-
held zone in Berlin because many
in posts of authority to provide
work are anti-Semitic followers
of the Nazis.
Estimating that there are about
6,000 Jews in Berlin, the report
sayi that the liberated German
Jews have so far benefited little
from the revocation of the Nazi
anti-Jewish laws. Though the
Jews have been undernourished
and tortured under the Nazi
regime, they are classified as
Germans not as "victims of
Nazism," and are treated as Ger-
mans and not as displaced per-
sons who are able to obtain better
rations than the Germans, the
report says.
