Ships Clothes, Cash
To Liberated Jews
At the annual meeting of
Selfhelp, of Emigres from Cen-
tral Europe, Detroit chapter,
which was addressed by Fred
M. Butzel and Prof. Gabriel
Steiner, it was reported that
thousands of pounds of clothing
were • clothing and shipped to
Europe through UNR,RA and
Selfhelp in New York.
A collection to assist the lib-
erated Jews of the concentration
camp at . •Theresienstadt, , ar-
ranged with the cooperatiOn of
Congregation Gemilut Chasso-
dim, netted $7,000.
A buffet supper was served,
proceeds to be used to send par-
cels to German 'Jews in France.
Prof. Steiner was elected hon-
orary chairman of the board in
recognitio;L of his services to
Selfhelp during the past year.

JDC Wins Praise
Of Polish Govt.
For Relief Work,
LONDON, (JTA) The Jew-
ish delegation from Poland head-
ed by Dr. Emil Sommerstein re-
ported here that the American
Joint Distribution Committee
has been permitted by the Pol-
ish Government in Warsaw • to
resume its relief activities and
that the Polish authorities reg-
istered the JDC officially as a
body authorized to conduct relief
activities.
Members of the delegation
lauded the JDC for the aid given
to the Jews during the occupa-
tion period and paid tribute–to
the .- JDC representatives who
died, at their posts in Poland,
, Emphasizing that the entire
JDC staff in Poland was exterm,
mated by the Germans, except
M. Guzik, one of its directors,
members of the delegation. re-
ported :that as Soon as Guzik
emerged from hiding, he resumed
the JDC activities in liberated
Poland and is now fully cooper-
atng with the Central Commit-
tee of Polish Jeis, in Lublin.
In addition to the 80,000 sur-
vivors in Poland, the transfer of
at least 150,000 Polish Jews from
Russian territory to Poland will
start next month, the delegation
revealed.

Community Center closed its
season Aug. 17 with a farewell
picnic and party -at Palmer Park
and at the .1d:wish Community
Center. Mr. Young was the camp

combat factual film produced in
the United States, will be shown
at the Jewish Community Center,
in the summer series of motion
picture nights, Tuesday, at 9:15
p. pa., in the Center Outdoor
Court. The public is invited.

Col. William J. Keighley, Office
of Asistant of Air Staff Intelli-
gence. The actors in the film are
the famous Eighth Air Force.

judge who presided over the
Silesian Court of Appeals, before
the Nazi regime, has been ap-
pointed by U. S. authorities, as
Chief Justice of the Berlin Land-
gericht, Berlin's highest court.
Dr. Gideon Mer, professor of
epidemiology at Hebrew Univer-
sity in. Jerusalem and a member
of its faculty since 1929, is serving
with the rank of Lieutenant
Colonel as chief of the anti-ma-
laria unit with the British forces
in Burma.
