PARIS (Cable)—Pierre Chail-
let, president of the French Re-
siStance Committee and editor
of the newspaper "Christian Wit-
ness," and Marc Sagnier, French
author and leader of the Chris- .
tian Democrats, voiced their sup-
port of the Zionist program in
messages addressed to American
Jews through Dr. Israel Gold-
stein, president of the Zionist
Organization of America.
Chaillet was one of the fore-
most helpers of Jews during the
Nazi occupation. Sagnier, spir-
itual leader of the movement
"Republicain Populaire", express-
Ms deep understanding of Zion-
ism and hope for_ the "creation
of a world fellowship of all liber-
al forceS to fight anti-semitism."
The ZOA president spent some
time with a group of liberated
youths from the concentration
camps • of Buchenwald, Aussch-
witz and Dachau. He left for a
week's stay in Germany to visit
the lib e r at e d concentration
camps there.
Anticipating a large attendance by members of the armed
forces due home on furlough during the High Holy Days,
coupled with the addition of new members during the past
year, the board of directors of Congregation Shaarey Zedek
announce that they have been compelled. to depart from the
usual custom of accommodating non-members in the syna-
gogue's social hall.
In the absence of Rabbi Morris Adler, presently serving in
the South Pacific with the rank of Captain, David Friedman,
chairman of the auxiliar3( services, has made known that Rabbi
Alexander J. Burnstein of New York City will assist Dr. A. M.
Hershman in conducting the High Holy Day services.

at the office of the congregation, Chicago Blvd. and Lawton
Avenue.

At a meeting of the Men's Club
of the Northwest Hebrew Con-
gregation and Center, at the home
of its treasurer, David Tchor, on
-Monday, the following wer e
elected to the board of directors:
Dr. Ben Levy, Maurice Karo, Al-.
fred Helfgott, Dr. Michael Engel-
man and H A. Lichter. By
reason of their appointment to
the chairmanship of__ the various
committees, Max Haidy, David
J. Miller, Max Newman and Mal-
cohn Rivkin are also members of
the board. •
At Monday's meeting, plans
were made for the Aug.. 12 out-,
door picnic of the Men's Club :to
be held at Cass-Fenton Park
after 10:30 a. m. Arrangements
are in charge of Max 'Haidy, co-
chairman of the SoCial Commit-
tee with • Hy Storchan,
David J. • Miller, in his report
on athletic. activities, announced
that alleys had been 'reserved at
the _Paint Beach Recreation, on
Meyers Road, between. SIX Mile
Road and Outer Drive. Bowfing
would begin the - first week in
September. Mr. Miller stated that
he.' eXpects to call a. meeting of.
all those interested in bowling,
on Aug. 16. .
The program committee, under
the co-chairmanship • of Mamie
Lax and Malcolm Rivkin, report-
ed on future activities.
The program of the evening
was featured by a discussion of
Hitler's "Mein Kampf', led by
Malcolm Rivkin and followed by
discussion by the entire group.
Refreshments were served by the
hosts, Mr; and Mrs. Tchor.

brew Center :of -Crestwood; N:
Y., and remained there for seven
years. For the last three years
he held the position of cantor
in, Cleveland. He possesses a
dramatic tenor voice.
He will officiate on Sabbath
Mvorchirri Elul, this Saturday,

NEW YORK—The co-directors
of the American Christian Pales-
tine Committee, Dean HoWard
M. LeSourd of Boston University
and Dr. Carl Hermann Voss, ex-
ecutive secretary of the Church
Peace Union, arrived by plane
in London, where they will de-
velop a program for extension
of Christian support for the Jew-
ish people's aspirations in Pales-
tine, it was announced by the
Ameridan Christian Palestine
Committee..
The ACPA speaks for the
American Palestine Committee,
Composed of Christian , laymen,
and the -Christian Council on
Palestine, whose membership is
drawn from the American clergy.
Dean LeSourd directs the activi-
:ties of the American Palestine
Committee and Dr. Voss is ex-
ecutive secretary_ of the .Christian
Council on Palestine.,
The trip is being made at the
_invitation of S i r Wyndham
Deedes, one of Britain's leading
Chriftian spokesman in behalf
of a Jewish Palestine, who is
chairman of "Palestine House"
in London,
Dr. Voss and Dean LeSourd
have been invited to attend the
World Zionist Conference, which
opened in London this week, as
observers.
Senator Robert F. Wagner (D)
of N. Y., is chairman of the
American Palestine Committee,
and Representative Helen Gaha-
gan Douglas (D) of Calif., is
secretary. Its Executive Council,
includes Judge Frank A. Picard
of Detroit and. Senator Arthur
H. Vandenberg of Michigan.
Dr. Henry A. Atkinson is chair-
man of the - Christian Council on
Palestine; and Prof. - Reinhold
Niebuhr is treasurer.

To Germany for Religious Work
NEW YORK—Rabbi Alexan-
der S. Rosenberg, an outstand-
ing orthodox rabbi and commun-
al leader, will leave for Europe
is a member of_ the Executive
Conimittee of the Union of Orth-
odox Rabbis of the U. S. and
Canada. A graduate of Rabbi
Isaac Elchanan Seminary of New
York, he w a s one' of the found-
el.'s of the Rabbinical Council of
America. He. is chairman of the
administrative committee of the
American Federation of Hungar-
ian. Jews. He has a knowledge
of Yiddish, Hebrew-, German,
Hungarian, Slovak, CzeCh and
French. :
In the U. S. the J.D.C.. receives
its income from the campaign
collections of the United Jewish
Appeal for Refugees, Overseas
Needs and Palestine, which re-
ceive their funds in Detroit from
the Allied Jewish Campaign
through' the War Chest.

Hyman. JDC's executive vice-
chairman.
The first rabbi to be sent into
Germany by the JDC, major
American agency for the relief
of suffering. Jews abroad, Rabbi
Rosenberg will look after • the
spiritual needs and welfare of
Jews living in former German
concentration camps. He will
work directly in the camps in
conjunction with 10 relief teams
sent in , by the JDC and will aid
in the distribution of religious
and ritual articles sent overseas
by the -JDC.
Rabbi Rosenberg, one of 40 so-
cial workers and rabbis selected
two years ago by JDC for spe-
cial course to prepare a group
of people for work overseas in
the relief and rehabilitation pro-
gram of the JDC, has been grant-
ed a leave of absence by his
synagogue, Congregation O h a b
Zedek, Yonkers, N. Y., where he
has served for 20 years and
which recently awarded him a
life contract.
A native of Czechoslovakia,
Rabbi Rosenberg came to the U.
S. in 1921 when he was 18. 'He

Stefan Zweig's play, "Jeremiah",
produced in this country be the
Theater Guild.
The radio dramatization de-
picts the - call of Jeremiah to
warn the Jews of the fall of
Jerusalem, his iinprisonment by
King Zedekiah, Jerusalem's con-
quest by Nebuchadnezzer of
Babylon, and the dispersion of
the Jews into captivity.
The program is presented over
the NBC network Sunday morn-
ings, 11 to 11:30, under the aus-,
pices of the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America.
The 100th child was born in
the 11-year-old - communal set-
tlement of Maabarot in Emek
Hefer, Palestine.
