Is. Well Treated in France
PARIS, (JTA)—British authorities have not asked the French
Government to extradite to Britain the ex-Mufti of Jerusalem who
acted as Hitler's and Mussolini's agent among the Arab people until
Germany's defeat, it was reported here. The Mufti was seized by
French forces in Southern Germany.
At the same time, a Jewish Telegraphic Agency correspondent
learned that French authorities do not intend to surrender the ex-
Mufti at the present itme. He is living in a comfortable villa under
police surveillance and is reported to be getting "excellent - treat-
ment."
There is much speculation here as to the role which the ex-
Mufti may still play in the Arab world as a result of the tense rela-
tions between France and Britain because of the situation in Syria.
It is predicted by some circles that, utilizing the fact that the ex-
Mufti is violently anti-British, the French authorities may use him.
for pro-French propaganda among the Arabs. In this connection,
it is pointed out that when the ex-Mufti escaped from the British
in Palestine, he was given shelter in Syria with the knowledge of
the French authorities there.
The fact that the British Government has not yet asked France
for the extradition of the ex-Mufti as a war criminal who headed
the anti-British uprising in Iraq during the war and directed anti-
British propaganda from Italy and Germany as an agent of the
Axis, is taken here to mean that Britain is not particularly anxious
to have him on her hands, since this would undoubtedly compli-
cate the relations of the British Government with the Arabs in
Palestine and elsewhere.
(In London, competent observers told the Jewish Telegraphic
Agency that they consider it possible that the ex-Mufti might sud-
denly reappear in the midst of the boiling Middle-Eastern nest of
intrigues. It was doubted whether punishment of a drastic nature
will be meted out to him even if he is surrendered to the British.

United States after the advent
of Hitler, will be asked to con-
duct the annual Salzburg Fes-
tival this summer, if permission
of American military .authorities
can be obtained.
Baron. Heinrich Pithone, dir-
ector of the festival since 1923,
told a JTA correspondent that
"we have asked the military au-
thorities to allow us to extend
an invitation to Walter, and we
strongly hope that he can come.
He conducted here every sum-

soul of the Salzburg Festivals

Jews in Liberated Camps
Insist on Segregation
LONDON, (JTA)—Polish Jews
in former Nazi concentration
camps in the Allied-controlled
section of Germany are refusing
to be considered part of the Po-
kC.0114E.Sg.??,
lish national groups within the
camps, which are represented by
officers of the Polish Govern-
ment-in-Exile, according to a re-
port received by the Jewish
Committee for Relief Abroad.
The report adds that the chief
aim of these survivors is to emi-
grate to Palestine, England or
the U. S.
The report quotes a Polish
Jew who recently arrived in Al-
lied territory from the Russian-
occupied zone as confirming that
Jews inside Poland have been
murdered in recent months by
members of underground units
affiliated with the London Gov-
ernment. The informant, whose
name is Herschl Purzicki, said
that the Russians are dealing
"promptly" with such offenses.
Jewish internees in the Allach
camp, complained that Polish
authorities had suggested that
the men leave for a Polish camp,
while the Jewish women would
remain. The Ebensee camp, how-
ever, is divided into Polish and
non-Polish sections and here
about 1,500 to 2,000 Jews are
confined in the Polish section.
The family of the late Pvt.
Melvin Sapperstein wish to
thank their many friends and re-
latives for their kindnesses and
thoughtfulness shown them dur-
ing their recent bereavement.

killed one of the J ewish patients
and mortally wounded another,
the broadcast reported. At the
same time, an armed band sur-
rounded a detachment of 12 Po-

Another group of terrorists

A near-pogrom was staged
by the fascists in the town of

rumor that the Jews killed a
Polish girl "for ritual purposes,"
an enraged mob dragged Jews
out of their dwellings, drove
them through the streets and
