The acquisition of land in Pales-
tine is vital for the absorption of
new immigrants froin war-rav-
aged EUroPe, the 'reintegration of
returning servicemen and worn-
en, the establishment of new
agricultural settlements, housing
developments • for newly, arrived
refugees and the increase of food
production. The Jewish Agency
for Palestine, the Palestine Foun-
dation Fund, the Jewish National
Fund. and the Mizrachi Palestine
Fund—the agencies constituting
the United Palestine' Appeal—
require $35,300,000 in 1945 to
carry on and expand the program
of mass settlement and recon-
struction of the Jewish National
Horne. In addition to providing
new land areas for the settlement
.of hundreds of thouSands of
Europe's homeless Jews, United
Palestine Appeal funds are uti-
lized for transportation, housing,
care and training of new arrivals,
promotion of agricultural and in-
dustrial development, aid to de-
mobilized Jewish soldiers and as-
sistance to educational, cultural
and religious institutions in the
Jewish National Home.
