Recent Bride
ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Kohlenberg of 3211 Leslie Ave. will be
at home Sunday, June 10, 2 to 5 and 8 to 10 p. in., in honor of their
son, Lt. (jg) Norman Kohlenberg, who is home on leave.
Mr. and Mrs. Leon M. Frank of 17510 Pennington Drive will
be at home to relatives and friends from 7 to 12 p. m. on Sunday,
June 17, in honor of their son, Alan M., who will be graduated from
Wayne University Medical School.
Dr. and Mrs. Alex S. Friedlaender will be at home to their
relatives and friends from 2 to 5 p. m. on Sunday, June 17, at
3217 Fullerton, at a reception in honor of their son, Gary Elliott.

Mr. and Mrs. David Weiner of 2518 Taylor will be at home Sun-
day afternoon, June 10, from 2 to 6 in honor of their daughter,
Blanche, who is graduating from Wayne University, College of
Liberal Arts.
Mr. and Mrs. Jerry J. Greenblatt of Fairfield Ave., will en-
tertain at a cocktail party and reception in honor of the graduation
of their son, Dr. Norman P. Greenblatt, from the school of
Dentistry, Western Reserve University, Wednesday, June 13, in the
Silver Room of the Detroit LeLand Hotel, 9 to 12 p. m. No cards.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Kanter of 2401 Cortland celebrated
their 25th wedding anniversary on Decoration Day, May 30. A din-
ner reception for the immediate family was served in their home
for 50 relatives and friends.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Applebaum of 3322 Lawrence Ave. will
be at home to their relatives and friends on Sunday, June 10, 2 to
5 and 7 to 10 p. m., in honor of their son, Perry. No cards.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis Frank of Colorado Ave. are expected
home this week-end from New York City where they went to
visit with theri son, Lt. (sg) Robert Frank who is stationed in
Washington, D. C. They were accompanied by their daughter,
Betty, who has just completed her freshman year at Western Col-
lege in Oxford, 0.
Lt. (jg) and Mrs. Howard F. Kopel are visiting their parents,
Dr. and Mrs. Joseph N. Kopel of Chicago Blvd. Lt. Kopel has
returned from one and one-half years service in the Pacific and is
on a 30 day leave.
Miss Norma Wittelshofer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. M. M.
Wittleshofer of Boston Blvd., and Miss Betty Lewis, daughter of
Dr. and Mrs. Samuel J. Lewis of Whitmore Road, are expected
home this week-end from their classes at the Connecticut College.
Miss Carol Landau has returned from the University of Illinois
to spend the summer with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Lan-
dau of Longfellow Ave.
S 1/c Paul May returned Wednesday to Great Lakes Naval
Training Center following a week's leave with his parents, Mr.
and Mrs. Gerald May of Wildemere Ave.
Mrs. Ben-Zion Gotlieb is spending a few weeks with her par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Tobin of Byron Ave., before returning
to Columbus, Ga., where Cpl. Gotlieb is stationed.
Cpl. Tracy Freeman who recently has returned after 19 months
with the USAAF in England, is spending a 30 day furlough with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max N. Freeman of the Polk Manor
Apt., before leaving for his post in Wilmington, Del.
S 1/c Frank Boxman has returned to Virginia Beach following
a 10 day leave spent with his father, Abraham Boxman of Webb
Avenue.
Dr. and Mrs. George S. Weiss of 13100 Broadstreet Blvd. will
have open house Saturday evening, June 9, from 8 to 11 compli-
menting Mr. and Mrs. Louis Landfield (Viola Lewis Weiss) and
their daughter, Miss LaVerne Weiss, of Los Angeles. They are
spending a fortnight in the city and are guests at the Statler Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. Louis Kepes of Wildemere Ave., entertained for
the bridal party on June 7, in their home following the rehearsal
for their son's coming marriage on June 10 to Miss Doris Schoen-
berg. It was also the occasion of Miss Schoenberg's 20th birth-
day. Sgt. Erwin Kepes, the bridegroom, is here on a 21-day furlough.
He is stationed at West Palm Beach, Fla.

and Mrs. Saul Jackson of Cros-
well, Mich., • announce the mar-
riage of their daughter, Betty
Rae, to S 1/c Albert David Shaf-
fer, son of Mrs. Elizabeth Shaf-
fer on May 31. The ceremony
was held at Shaarey Zedek and
was followed by a family dinner.
The couple left on a short trip
after which S 1/c Shaffer will
report to Great Lakes Naval
Training Center. The bride is a
graduate of the University of
Michigan and her husband of
Wayne University.

Following a stay at the Edge-
water Beach Hotel in Chicago
the young couple for the present
will make their home in Balti-
more, Sgt. Rosensweet being sta-
tioned at Fort George Meade,

GALINSKY - GARFINKEL-
On Sunday afternoon, June 3,
Miss Rose Garfinkel, daughter of
Mrs. Max Garfinkel, of West
Outer Drive, became the bride
of T/4 Jack Galinsky, son of Mr.
and Mrs. Samuel Galinsky of
Tyler Ave. Dr. A. M. Hershman
performed the ceremony in Ri-
viera Hall. The bride's sister,
Mrs. Milton Altman, was matron
of honor, and Rm 2/c Harry
Frisson served as best man. The
bride's brother-in-law and sister,
Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Yagoda
gave her in marriage. T/4 Galin-
sky, who recently returned after
34 months in the Southwest Pa-
cific, left for Camp Crowder for
re-assignment.
War Refugee Board
Is Being Liquidated
WASHINGTON (JPS) — The
War Refugee Board is in the
process of liquidation, since the
purpose for which it was orig-
inally established—that of res-
cuing Jews and other refugees
in Nazi-occupied territories—
has been invalidated by events,
a high WRB official stated.
Its overseas staff is being re-
called, and a skeleton staff has
been left in Washington to
terminate the Board's activities
as soon as possible. It is cur-
rently being reported that Dis-
trict Attorney William O'Dwyer,
its executive director, is plan-
ning to resign.
The board was established by
an Executive order of President
Roosevelt in January, 1944.

Mr. and Mrs. Sol Leash of

becca, to Lt. Lewis Elbinger, son

bride was attended by Elaine

man was Pvt. Robert Bradley of
Lima, Ohio.
Mrs. Elbinger, a graduate of
Wayne, has been attending In-
diana University.
Lt. Elbinger is a graduate of
Michigan College of Mining
Technology.
The bride wore a white hoop-
skirted gown with a veil of
Swiss lace.
Lt. and Mrs. Elbinger are re-
siding temporarily in Red Bank,
N.. J., near Ft. Monmouth where
he is stationed.
