A June Bride

I ACTIVITIES IN SOCIETY

Miss Nancy Levin, a student at Bard College, Annedale, N. Y.,
is spading 10 days between semesters with her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. A. J. Levin of Muirland Ave.
Mrs. Murray Kirschman is the guest of her brother and sister-
in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rubiner of Chicago Blvd. Her hus-
band has recently been transferred frbm Baltimore to Rocky
Mountain Arsenal, Denver, where Mrs. Kirschman plans to join him.
Staff Sgt. David Weinstein, who has recently returned from
three years service in the Pacific, is spending a 21-day furlough
with his . aunts, the Misses Freida and Sadie Weinstein of Calvert
Ave., before leaving for Miami Beach, Fla., for re-assignment.
Capt. and Mrs. Gerson and their small daughter, Judith Beth,
are expected to arrive this week-end from Ottawa, Ont. to be the
guests of their parents, Dr. and Mrs. David Fauman of Boston Blvd,
Mrs. Jerome Sonenklar (Adele Blumberg) is at present making ,
her home with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Max Blumberg of Sturte-
vant Ave., while her husband, Lt. Sonenklar of the U. S. Army
Air Corps, is on overseas duty.
Capt. and Mrs. Robert Spiegel and their small daughter, Bob-
ette, who have been the guests of her parents, Justice and Mrs.
Henry Butzel of Edison Ave., have moved into their new home at
18439 Griggs Ave.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry J. Nederlander (Marjorie Rosenbaum) have
moved and are now residing at 825 Whitmore Rd .
Lt. Marshal D. Shulman, who recently returned from 18 months
service in India, spent a day with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Harry
Shulman of Webb Ave. He is expected home shortly on a leave.
Mr. and Mrs. M. B. Berkman of Parkside Ave., have as their
guest Mr. Berkman's nephew, Capt. E. I. Berkman, who is on a
week's leave from his post at Aloe Field, Victoria, Tex.
Mr. and Mrs. Nathan S -chlafer have moved from the Lee PlaZa
Apt. and are now residing at 825 Whitmore Rd.
Cpl. and Mrs. Arthur Serwer are visiting their parents,. Mr.
and Mrs. Herman Fisher of Atkinson Ave., and Mr. and Mrs.
William Serwer of Boston Blvd. Cpl. Serwer is on a two weeks'
furlough from his post in Moses Lake, Wash.
Pfc. Lawrence Beneson, who has recently returned from 22
months overseas duty, is spending a 60-day furlough with his par-
ents, Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Beneson of Clairmount Ave. Pfc. Beneson,
who is the recipient of the Presidential Citation and the Purple
Heart, escaped after 14 months in a German Prison Camp.
Lt. (s.g.) and Mrs. Harry Meisner and their son, Lawrence, are
visiting his mother, Mrs. I. Meisner of Taylor Ave. Lt. (s.g.)
Meisner, USNR, has been a Contract Termination officer in the San
Francisco Bay area for the last two years.
Lt. (s.g.) Leonard Mirvis, USNR, spent the week-end with Mrs.
Mirvis and b his father, Samuel Mirvis of Oak Dr.
Lt. and Mrs. Newton G. Drews have returned to Columbus, 0.,
where Lt. Drews is stationed at the Medical Depot, after a short
visit with Lt. Drews' parents, Mr. and Mrs. Meyer Drews of W.
Euclid Ave., and Mrs. Drews' mother, Mrs. Martin Goldstein of
Chicago.
Complimenting Miss Gloria Allendar, whose marriage to Mor-
ton Bruce Zuckerman took place last Sunday, the following en-
tertained: Mesdames William Roth, Walter Aranoff, Julius Green ;
Harry Coggan, Robert Rosen, Max Coggan, Harry Shulman, David
Kallman, Joseph Allendar, Al Weisman, Maurice Seidan, Henry
Weinberg, Edward Stein, Sidney Wallace, Reuben Allendar, John
Herman, Al Davis, Sidney Sherman and the Misses Selma Roberts,
Ruth Goldberg, Frances Goldberg and Arlene Kutzen.
Mr. and Mrs. Barney A. Ross of 2236 Clements will hold open
house from 3 to 6 on Sunday in honor of the graduation of their
daughter, Arlene Beth, from Bnai David Religious School. No cards.
Mrs. Andrew Hartman of Ohio Ave. is expected home this
week from a three-month visit in California. Mrs. Hartman and
daughters, Audrey and Marilyn, and her parents, Mr. and Mrs. M.
Crow of Boston Blvd., intend making their home in Los Angeles
and will leave Detrbit in August.
Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Freedman of 18243 Ilene will have open
house next Wednesday (Memorial Day) in honor of their silver
wedding anniversary. Relatives from Baltimore, Md., are expected
to attend the celebration.
Lt. Jerome P. Bloom, accompanied by his fiancee, Charlotte
Hannah Ross, returned to his post in New York, after visiting his
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Isadore Bloom of Webb Ave.
Mrs. Max Cohen, mother of S/Sgt. Donald Rosenfeld, is flying
to Los Angeles to visit her daughter-in-law, Marion Rosenfeld,
(nee Cohen), and her new granddaughter, Rochelle Rosenfeld.
Prior. to leaving for Los Angeles, she visited in Chicago.

'All Hadassah Groups
Hold Annual Meeting
At Sttler tuesday

The annual meeting of Detroit
Chapter of Hadassah's four
groups will be held next Tues-
day at 1:30, in the Michigan
room of Hotel Statler.
The chapter president, Mrs.
Louis Glasier, will report on the
year's activities. Mrs. Sidney J.
Allen, Honor Roll chairman, will
given an up-to-date report on the
present fund-raising effort.
Annual election of officers and
board members will take place.
Mrs. Seymour J. Frank is chair-
man of the nominating commit-
tee.
Upon conclusion of the business
meeting, the film "Out of the
Darkness", depicting present day
progress in Palestine, will be
presented.

Bnai Brith Women's
Council Meets June 3

The annual meeting of the
Women's Michigan Bnai Brith
Council will be held Sunday,
June 3, at Webster Hall. An all
day affair, it will begin at 10:30
a. m. and will culminate with a
banquet at 6 p. m.
The agenda will include the
election of officers, discussion of
the revised by-laws and formu-
lating council plans for the com-
ing year.

The couple will make their
home in Los Angeles where the
bridegroom, a discharged war
veteran, is attending UCLA
under the GI bill of rights.

Elect Officers Monday,
Hear Review of Year

Home for Aged Women's Auxiliary
Honored on Its 20th Anniversary

On Monday, some 300 women
joined in paying tribute to the
Women's Auxiliary of the Jewish
Home for the Aged upon the oc-
casion of -the celebration of the
20th anniversary of the founding
of the organization.
Philip Adler, foreign affairs ex-
pert of the Detroit News,. was
guest speaker at the affair which
tok place in the Crystal Ballroom
ol the Book-Cadillac Hotel.
Movies taken on June 15, 1937,
the day of removal from the old
institution to the new quarters
on Petoskey and Humphrey, were
shown through the courtesy of
Alex Schreiber whose generosity
also makes it possible for the
folks to enjoy films in the home.
Greetings Extended
Mrs. David Kliger was toastmist-
ress of the afternoon, and greet-
ings were extended by Mrs. Rose
Koven, president of tlic-.! group.
Mrs. Samuel Weller, chairman of
the planning committee; Myron
Keys, chairman of the board of
the home; and Max Kogan, treas-
urer of the institution. Dr. Otto
Hirsch, superintendent of the
Home for the Aged, offered the
benediction. Laura Cox, .15-year-
old vocalist, rendered several
solos.
Special honor was accorded to
the past presidents Mesdames
Minnie . Rubinstein, Bessie L.
Sarashon, Rose Feral-, I-. A. Gold-
man, David Kliger, Rose Lippitt,
M. J. -Greenberg, and the late
Mrs. Minnie Goldberg and Mrs.
Harry Lewis.
Make Life Comfortable
These 20 .years have been a
period of devotion, on the part of
the women of the auxiliary, to
making life more comfortable
and pleasant for the residents of
the home whO now total 137,-
ranging _ in ages from 60 to 99
years.
During that . . time the - .mem-
bership has grown from. a hand-
ful of women to an organization
of some 1,600 members: Through-
out these 20 years . the women
have arranged parties and holi-
day celebrations, have given gifts
and written letters for the old

annual meeting of Shaarey Zedek
Sisterhood, in the social hall of
the synagogue, the year's activi-
ties will be reviewed by the
president, Mrs. Nathan Speva-
kow, and election of officers and
directors will be held.
A musical program, under the
direction of Charles Frederick
Morse, conductor, will be pre-
sented by the following members
of the Music Study Club choral
group, accompanied by Mrs. Rose
Bassin Stein, pianist: Sopranos,

May 25. She will perform the
First Movement of Grieg's Piano
Concerto.

The home, which is under the
supervision of Dr. Otto A. Hirsch,
with the assistance of Mrs. Hirsch,
is one of the most modern insti-
tutions of its kind, containing a
synagogue, social . hall, library
with English, Hebrew, Yiddish
and German books on its shelves
and facilities for the care of the
chronically ill. Every considera-
tion has been made for the com-
fort of the old folks. even unto
the elimination of stairs.
The old people in turn think of
others as is indicated by the
pennies which are placed in the
collection plate each Monday and
Thursday morning after the read-
ing of the Torah.
Last year these collections net-
ted $50, $25 of which was donat-
ed to the Free Loan Association
of Jerusalem and the remainder
of which the old folks contribut-
ed to a fund to purchase toys for
refugee children.
