The wedding at which Chap-
lain . Adler officiated took place
on Feb. 20. The uniformed bride
was WAC Evelyn Cowan of Co-
lurbu,s,, 0., and the bridegroom
was Sgt. Harry Becker of Elyria,
0. The wedding was conducted
in strict orthodox fashion.
Chaplain Silver writes that he
and Rabbi Adler .jogged to the
scene of the wedding in a jeep
laden with siddur, tallis, wine,
a ketubah and a glass. They had
difficulty securing the glass,
"since it is a scarce commodity
in any bivouac area, but some-
where we uncovered one and
later it was effectively demol-
ished by the bridegroom."
Three Chaplains Present
The marital knot was tied by
Chaplain Adler, a former vice-
president of Bnai Brith Pisgah
Lodge; Chaplain Abraham Wino-
kur of New York City, and Chap-
lain Silver, former director of
the Bnai Brith Hine' Foundation
at the University of Maryland.
The scene of the wedding was
a spacious bamboo chapel o'er-
topped with palm trees. S/Sgt.
Becker, an air force dispatcher,
received special permission to
fly to his bride's post, and there
was little time for preparation.
However, the glad news traveled
fast, and a large crowd assem-
bled at the chapel.
Chaplain Adler gave the wed-
ding talk and recited the
b'rochos. Chaplain Winokur read
the Ketubah. "0 Promise Me"
was sung by the choir which
sings for the Protestant services.
Parachute `Chuppah'
Although a chuppah was not
available, a white parachute
-above the altar furnished t h e
canopy effect. The bride was
attended by her commanding of-
ficer, WAC Capt. Blanche Cline,
of Brookline, Mass., and she was
'given away" by Maj. Dr. J. E.
Koptchok, of Whiting, Ind. Best
man was S/Sgt. Charles M.
Schechner, Yonkers, N. Y., and
the maid of honor was WAC Cpl.
Rose Glazer, Bronx, N. Y.
Although the couple had
known each other in Ohio, their
romance began while they were
both stationed in New Guinea.
