Leaders Meet
At Y eshivah
This Sunday
Lieberman Will Address
Gathering; Educational
Program to Be Aired
Representatives of synagogues
and local organizations and mem-
bers of the board of directors of
Yeshivath Beth Yehudah will
meet at 2:30 p. m. Sunday, to
discuss the educational program
of the Yeshivah and Beth Jacob
School, now serving more than
500 Detroit Jewish children, in
the Synagogue Auditorium, Dex-
ter and Cortland.
The meeting will be open to
the general public at 4 p. m., to
hear an address by the New York
Yiddish journalist, Chaim Lie-
berman, who will discuss Jewish
religious education in the Ameri-
can environment.
Irving M. Bunim, of New York,
national leader of Young Israel
and other Jewish religious move-
ments, will be the guest speaker
at the third annual patrons' din-
ner of the Yeshivah, to be held
Sunday, Feb. 11, at 6:30 p. m., in
the social hall of Cong. Shaarey
.Zedek, Chicago at Lawton. A
Contribution of $25 pays for two
admissions, $15 for one. Reser-

New classes for the Kinder-
garten and the first four years
of the elementary school pro-
gram at the Yeshivah are now in
formation. This department oper-
ates under the supervision of the
Detroit Board of Education and
Board of Health. A complete
course in Hebrew and English
studies is offered between 9 and
4 daily. Lunches are served and
two buses transport students to
and from school.
Dr. Franklin Quest
Speaker at Shaarey
Zedek Oneg Shabbat
Dr. Leo M. Franklin, rabbi
emeritus of Temple Beth El, will
be the principal speaker at the
Shaarey Zedek this Friday eye-
ing. The Friday evening Oneg
Shabbat is held in the Social Hall
and begins at 8:30 p. m.
Dr. Franklin will speak on "As
Jew to Jew". Cantor Jacob M.
Sonenklar will lead in the com-
munity singing of Sabbath and
-Palestinian melodies. Refresh-
ments will be served by the Sis-
terhood after the program.
The weekly Oneg Shabbat will
be continued until Passover. Out-
standing speakers will address
the audiences.

bonim. Proceeds from this af-
fair are to be utilized in main-
taining and improving traditional
religious observance in Detroit.

Dr. Glazer to Give
Review This Friday

of Temple Beth . EI this Friday,
at 8:15, Dr. B. Benedict Glazer
will review John Hershey's "A
Bell For Adano" which was se-
lected by the New York Times
literary editor as the best novel
of the past year.
The musical program will be
rendered by the Temple Quartet
with Julius Chajes directing and
Jason Tickton at the organ.
A social hour under the aus-
pices of the Sisterhood will fol-
low the services.

tions for the addition of the third
to sixth grades for the new term,
beginning Feb. 1.
Registration is now open for
all grades, from Kindergarten to
the 12th grade. Classes start at
9:30 a. m. Dismissal for the Kin-
dergarten is at 1, for first to sixth
grade at 4; for the sixth grade
and up at 7.

ity leaders in a panel discussion
on "Religion in Schools", at a
meeting of the Torch Club in
the Rackham Foundation Bldg.,
next Tuesday, at 6:30 p. m.
The film "The World We Want
to Live In", prepared by the Na-
tional Conference of Christians
and Jews, parent organization of
the Detroit Round Table, will be
shown in the public schools of
Rockford, Mich., Tuesday.
On Tuesday, the Round Table
also will present Dr. Alvin D.
Hersch, member of the Univer-
sity of Detroit Law School fa-
culty,. before the Business Worn-
en's Group of the Metropolitan
Methodist Church at its dinner
meeting. He will discuss the
work of the National Conference
of Christians and Jews and will
speak about Jewish customs and
ideals.

Bnai David Friday

of Cleveland will be the guest
speaker at the Friday evening
gathering of Congregation Bnai
Dayid this Friday, at 8:30 p. m.
Rabbi J.- S. Sperka will preside
and Cantor Abraham Gartenhaus
will be in charge of the musical
program.
The service on Jan. 19 will be
devoted to sacred music instead
of the usual lecture. Cantor Gar-
tenhaus and a choir will sing
Sabbath music and prayers.

Temple Israel has issued a call
to parents of children of school
age to hear Rabbi Leon Fram
speak on "The Education of an
American Jew," Friday, Jan. 19,
at 8:30 p. m., in the auditorium
of the Detroit Institute of Arts.
After the service the congre-
gation will hold a discussion on
the religious education of their
children, led by a panel com-
posed of the teaching staff.
Cantor Robert S. Tulman,
Organist Karl W. Haas, and the
Temple Israel Quartet conducted
by Dah Frohman, will provide
music for the occasion.
The board of the Religious
School of Temple Israel, whose
chairman is Arthur J. Hass,
plans to make Parents' Night an
annual occasion for stimulating
religious education.
,In the interval between the
lecture and the discussion the
Sisterhood of Temple Israel will
sponsor an Oneg Shabbat recep-
tion for parents and teachers.
This Friday night, Rabbi Fram
preaches on "The Evolution of
Reform Judaism." David Osnos,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Osnos,
will celebrate his Bar Mitzvah.
