gogue Council of America, Se-

wishing to observe High . Holy -
days may be delivered to induc-
tion stations either before or
after the dates indicated.
Similar responses : were 're-
ceived from the Departments. of
War and Navy indicating that
their Jewish employes will be
granted High Holy Day leaves
upon request.
The OWI has again invited the
Synagogue Council of America
to broadcast High Holy messages
to our armed forces overseas and
to the Jews of the world. The
Rosh Hashanah program will be
broadcast on Sunday, Sept. 17,
at 10 a.m. Rabbis Israel Gold-
stein, president of the Synagogue
Council of America, speaking in
English, Mordeccai- Stern, past
president of t h e Rabbinical
Council of America, speaking in
Yiddish, and .Ahron Opher, as-
sistant to the president of the
Synagogue. Council, speaking in
Hebrew, will deliver New Year's
Messages.
The Yorii Kippur program will
be broadcast on Tuesday, Sept.
26, at 10 a.m. The speakers will
be Rabbis Herbert S. Goldstein,
president-elect of the Synagogue
Council, in Yiddish, Robert Gor-
dis, president of the Rabbinical
Assembly of America, in Hebrew,
and William F. Rosenblum, presi-
dent of the New York Associa-
tion. of Reform Rabbis, in Eng7
lish. Both programs . will be
broadcast over two short wave
stations under the auspices of
the Office of War Information.
The Yom Kippur broadcast of
the Synagogue Council of Amer-
ica will be heard over the NBC
network on Sunday, Sept. 24,
at 1:15 p.m. Rabbi Goldstein will
deliver the message. Rabbi Opher
will read liturgical selections and
Cantor. Zalmon Yavnoh of the

of the service.

A discussion of the efforts to

held at the conference of Com-
munity Council delegates Wednes-
day, Sept. 13, at 8:30 p.m. in
the auditorium of the Jewish
Center.. Part of the meeting also
will be devoted to a discussion
of Gerald L. K. Smith's "Amer-
ica First Party."
The discussion of the fight
against anti-Semitism will center
around the meeting of the Na-
tional Community Relations Ad-
visory Council, in New York
this week-end. Rabbi Leon Fram,
chairman of the Council's Com-
munity Relations Committee, and
Isaac Franck, Council's executive
director, are representing De-
troit. The NCRAC was organ-
ized last March to coordinate the
anti-defamation programs of - the
Am-erican. Jewish Committee,
American Jewish Congress, Bnai
Brith Anti-Defamation League,
Jewish Labor Committee, and
the offices in 14 larger U. S.
communities.

Plans for the season's Yiddish
Culture Series, under joint spon-
sorship of the Center and t h e
Community Council, will be pre-
sented to the delegates; and the
general program of cultural work
with organizations will be dis-
cussed. There will be reports on
the work of various committees
and on the general - program of
the Council during the past few
months and policy for work dur-
ing the current season will be
discussed.
James I. Ellmann, Council
president, will preside. Delegates
are urged to attend. Opinions
and recommendations of dele-
gates guide the decisions of the
Executive Committee and the va-
rious standing committees.
Through the delegates, the voice
of the 208 affiliated organizations
can be effectively heard in the
determination of over-all com-
munity policy.

Widow of Dr. Schorr
Committed Suicide
NEW YORK (JPS)—Mrs. Ta-
mara Schorr, widow of the Chief
Rabbi of Warsaw, Dr. Moses
Schorr, who was reported ,to
have been slain by the Nazis in
Poland, committed suicide when
she saw that the German Com-
mandant in charge of the Vittel
camp in France tricked her into
persuading her fellow privners
to submit to the transfer orders
without resistance.
The Commandant had given
her his "word of honor" that the
removal had no connection with
any deportation plans. When she
saw that she had unwittingly
misled her fellow prisoners she
took her own life. This informa-
tion was revealed by Hias, t h e
Hebrew Sheltering and Immi-
grant Aid Society, quoting a re-
port submitted to the Hias-Ica
Emigration. Association Office in
Lisbon, Portugal, by an exchang-
ed British war prisoner, who was
interned at Camp Vittel.
