Jews Attacked
By Hoodlums
At Coney Island
Youths, Adults Threatening
to Form Vigilante Bands
Against Anti-Semites
NEW YORK (JPS)—One Jew-
ish boy was knocked unconscious
and had to be carried home,
others were bruised and Jewish
women were pushed around and
insulted, as anti-Semitic hood-
lumism broke out on the Coney
Island boardwalk. No arrests
were made as the hoodlums were
dispersed by police.
Four uniformed police and
three detectives were stationed
at the trouble spots along the
boardwalk to prevent further at-
tacks and "retaliation fighting"
by Jewish youths and adults who
threatened to form "vigilante"
bands as they did following anti-
Semitic outbreaks last Novem-
ber.
Christians living in the Coney
Island area were incensed by the
attacks. John M. Jones, chair-
man of the Brooklyn Borough
Gas Co., Local 101, said "I think
the problem will be solved when
more Gentiles take open resist-
ance to race baiting."
