Rabbi Morris Adler, who left
Tuesday for Cambridge, Mass.,
to report on Jan. 1 for duty as
Chaplain in the U. S. Army,
was honored at three events
prior to his departure.
On Sunday morning, at an as-
sembly of all pupils in the
Shaarey Zedek religious school,
he was presented with a certifi-
cate indicating that the boys
and girls of Congregation Shaa-
rey Zedek honored him by in-
scribing his name in the Golden
Book of the Jewish National
Fund in Jerusalem.
Honored by Thousands
Rabbi A. M, Hershman, Theo-
dore Baruch, Robert Kasle,
president of the Junior Congre-
tion, and other spokesmen for
the student body expressed their
good wishes to Rabbi Adler.
Monday evening, Congrega-
tion Shaarey Zedek honored
Rabbi Adler at a farewell gath-
ering to which the entire com-
munity was invited. Several
thousand people came to say
farewell to Rabbi Adler.
Men and women among all
walks of life, of all faiths, were
among these thousands, and the
gathering in Rabbi Adler's honor
was believed to have broken a
record in attendance for such
affairs.
Round Table Luncheon
The Detroit Round Table of

eon at the Standard Club on
Monday.

luncheon, at which Judge Er-
nest A. O'Brien presided, in-
cluded Henry Wineman, co-
chairman of the Round Table,
and Dr. Henry Hitt Crane. A
resolution which was presented to
Rabbi Adler, was signed by the
three co-chairmen of the Round
Table: Judge O'Brien, Mr. Wine-
man and Edgar A. Guest. The
resolution reads in part:
The Resolution
"There are hours in the lives
of men which, because of the
opportunity for the recognition
of outstanding achievements, set
them apart from other hours of
life. Such hours sometimes come
as a result of a decision, re-
quiring genuine courage and a
real spirit of sacrifice on the

The service will be followed by

The Young People's Club will
conduct a symposium after the
social hour to discuss Rabbi
Fram's analysis of the prospects

of the year 1944.

part of one of us to give himself
unswervingly to the call of duty.
Such an hour has come unto us
because of the decision of our
beloved friend and co-worker,
Rabbi Morris Adler of Congre-
gation Shaarey Zedek, to enter
the service of mankind under
the banner of Democracy and
Freedom as a Chaplain in the
armed forces of the United Na-
tions.
"It is the good pleasure and
high privilege of the Detroit
Round Table of Catholics, Jews
and Protestants to signalize such
an hour, on this twenty-seventh
day of December, 1943, through
the recognition and honoring of
Rabbi Morris Adler as one
whose achievements as a true
leader of men has been a mighty
inspiration.
"The prayers of good men
everywhere will be his, that he
may be sustained in courage and
power as he sets forth upon this
course of service having such
sublime possibilities of ministry
to men."
