of the town's 3,000 inhabitants.
Mr. Flegenheimer is one of many
refugees whose ideas and abili-
ties are repaying America's hos-
pitality. The 'adjustment of most
of these newcomers has been aid-
ed by the National Refugee Serv-
ice, whose work is financed by
the United Jewish Appeal.

quota of $10,000 will again be
raised this year.

After the address by Dr. Berg-
mann a musical program was pre-
sented at the meeting on Dec. 8.
Mme. Marguerite Kozenn, who
was accompanied by Julius Cha-
jes, appeared in a group of He-
brew songs which captivated the
audience. Mme. Kozenn also ap-
peared in a duet with Mrs. Abra-
ham Cooper and Mr. Chajes gave
several piano selections.

Erect 39th Settlement
The thirty-ninth. Jewish settle-
ment erected since the war was
dedicated Tuesday in Southern
Palestine by Nitzanim, a group
of General Zionist workers, for-
merly encamped at Herzliah. The
Palestine Foundation Fund (Ker-
en Hayesod) has contributed the
budget for settlement and the
Jewish National Fund (Keren
Kayemeth) has allocated 1,600
dunams.
The 38th settlement was erect-
ed Sunday 12 kilometers from
Gaza in Southern Palestine.
According to statistics of the
Palestine Government Depart-
ment of Migration in its report
for 1942, the total number of ar-
rivals last year was 140,987, of
whom 19,823 were Jews, 102,429

60 All-Jewish Units
In British Forces
LONDON (JTA)—There are
now 60 all-Jewish units in the
British. armed forces and 300 of
their officers are Jewish, it is
disclosed in a report by the Jew-
ish Agency here.
The total number of Palestine
Jews serving under the British
flag is about 22,000, the report
says, with 700 in the Navy and
3,000 women in the Auxiliary
Territorial Service, and the re-
mainder in the Army and Royal
Air Force. There are also 6,000
Jews among the supernumerary
police in Palestine and 8,000 in
the regular police.
The Palestine volunteer force,
which was organized in 1940
when it was feared that the Ger-
man army would invade Pales-
tine, will be disbanded this week,
the London press reported. The
step is being taken as a result of
the fact that Palestine is no long-
er in any danger. The volunteer
force has been trained and
equipped by the British army for
cooperation with army units.
