MISS REBECCA SIDORSKY
LONDON (JTA)—Only the '-establishment of a Jewish state in
Palestine can provide a permanent remedy for the present conflicts
there, it is stated this week in an editorial appearing in the Man-
chester' Guardian, leading liberal d _ ailY.
Expressing strong opposition to the White Paper, the editorial
states that "it is inconceivable that the present government; would
petrify the Jewish national home at a certain fixed Jewish popula-
tion figure and hand it over to the Arabs as permanently inferior
minority."
Recalling the opposition to the White Paper voiced in the -past
by Prime Minister Churchill, Herbert Morrison, CoL Leopold Aniery,
and Sir Archibald- Sinclair and by the Mandates Commission, the
Guardian declares that "it is for the present government to say
clearly that the sentence pronounced in 1939 on - the promised
national home , cannot and will not be fulfilled."
Robert Szold Arrives in Palestine
JERUSALEM (JTA)—Robert Szold, Anierican Zionist leader,
arrived here this week from the United States. . .
Ben Eliezer, a representative of the American Emeraency Com-
mittee to save the Jews of Europe, also arrived "here. At a presS
conference this week he said that he brought a letter from Mayor
•LaGuardia of New York to Mayor Rokach of Tel Aviv, in which the
hope is expressed that Palestine will solve the Jewish problem after
the war.
