Announcement of Plans Made by Morris L., Schaver
Chairman; Harry Schumer, Treasurer, Expects
Increased Giving in Next Year's Drive
Morris L. Schaver, president of
the Detroit branch of the Na-
tional Labor Committee for Pal-
estine, (Gewerkshaften), an-
nounced that new offices have
been rented at 9142 Linwood
Ave. The new headquarters in-
clude a conference room and
three offices.
Reviewing the Gewerkshaften
activities during the past year,
Mr. Schaver extended the move-
ment's greetings on the New
Year to the Jewish community
of Detroit.
Ih a • statement by Harry
Schumer, treasurer of the
Gewerkshaften drive, it is made
known • that • more than $50,000
has been remitted for Palestine
activities through the Histadruth,
Palestine Jewish Federation of
Labor, as a result of last year's
drive.
Mr. Schumer expressed con-
fidence that this sum will be
•exceeded in the drive this year,
to commence the end of Decem-
ber.

written by Dr. Mordecai Soltes,.
educator and author, in response
to requests for assistance in the
preparation of celeb r a tions
scheduled to take place through-
out the country during Jewish
Book, Month, Nov. 20 through
Dec. 19, and Jewish Book Week,
Dec. 12 through Dec. 19.
Maurice Jacobs, chairman of
the publications committee of the
Jewish Book Council of America,
and executive director of the
Jewish Publication Society of
America, stated that the tri-
lingual, (English, Hebrew and
Yiddish) Jewish Book Annual
for 1943 is in press and is sched-
uled for release during the Jew-
ish Book • Month. Dr. Solomon
Grayzel is editor-in-chief of the
Jewish Book Annual. The cover
design was drawn by the noted
illustrator, Arthur Szyk.
Rosh Hashanah brings new
hope and a new future to this
tuberculous patient at the Na-
tional. Jewish Hospital at Den-
ver who is able to study preci-
sion instrument work while in
bed. Expanded training project
launched at Hospital in coopera-
tion with Federal Security
Agency is preparing patients for
skilled jobs in defense plants af-
