NEW YORK, (JTA) — The
American Representation of Pol-
ish Jewry and the American Fed-
eration of Polish Jews this week
issued strong protests against an
anti-Semitic statement made to
the press in Mexico by Dr. Josef
Retinger, private secretary of
General- Sikorski, the Polish
Premier.
The protests quote Retinger as
having stated to Mexico's daily
newspaper "Excelsior" that a
delegation of Polish Jews in Mex-
ico visited General Sikorski "who
indicated to the members of the
delegation that he had received
information as to the behavior of
some of the Polish Jews." He
added that the Polish Premier
"emphatically told the Jewish
delegation that their behavior
was deplorable because the Pol-
ish Jews are guests of a country
which received them in a most
friendly manner."
In protesting Dr. Retinger's
statement, the American repre-
sentation of Polish Jewry de-
clares that the interview "is
nothing more than anti-Semitic
propaganda disseminated on the
soil of a foreign land."
Polish-Jewish leaders in Amer-
ica have cabled to the Jewish
members of the Polish National
Council in London urging them
to demand Dr. Retinger's resig-
nation as "a high representative
of the Polish Government who is
harming the interests of Poland
and is smearing the good reputa-
tion of Polish Jewry."

1848, brought a number - of new settlers to Detroit, Samuel
Heavenrich was one of the newcomers to this city at the
age of 13.
Next Monday, the son of this early Detroit pioneer
settler, Walter S. Heavenrich,

who has carried on his father's
tradition for community service
and deep interest in Jewish af-
'fairs, will celebrate his 75th
birthday. The occasion will be a
symbol of the continuity of Jew-
ish life here.
Walter S. Heavenrich was born
in Detroit Feb. 15, 1868, and has
lived here all his life, except
for a seven-year period he spent
in Chicago. But even during half
of that Sabbathical period he

Honored by Community
A graduate of the local public
schools and of the Capitol High
School, which was then located
'on State and Griswold streets,
Heavenrich entered the clothing
manufacturing business with his
father upon completion of his
high school studies.
In 1913 he entered the real
estate business and remains
active in this work to this day,
his offices being on the 22nd
...floor of the Penobscot Bldg.
Hale and hearty, Mr. Heaven-
rich does not show his age. Often,
in the coldest weather, he is seen
walking from his home at Hotel
Statler, where he resides with
1VIrs. Heavenrich, without hat or
coat.
He has been honored by his
!Jewish compatriots and by the
community at large on numerous
occasions. For the past 13 years,
Mr. Heavenrich has been a mem-

Temple Beth El. In 1924, he was

Hull Scored for Slur
On Jewish Reporter

NEW YORK (JPS)—Secretary
of State Cordell Hull is charged
with having "encouraged Con-
gressional Jew-baiters like Ran-
kin of Mississippi" by his slur
on I. F. Stone, Washington cor-
respondent of PM and the Na-
tion, former editor of the New
York Post, in an editorial in the
current issue of the Nation.
The Nation referred to the
Secretary's recent press confer-
ence when Stone asked a series
of apparently embarrassing ques-
tions about American policy in
North Africa. The Secretary ask-
ed the inquirer's name and when
he was told "Stone" replied "You
have some other name, too, have
you not?"
The Nation pointed out that
"this was a reference to the fact
that Stone was born Isidor Fein-
stein and the I. F. Stone is a pen
name made legal several years
ago. We know the Secretary is
not anti-Semitic, but he has pro-
vided another incident on which
papers of the type of the Chicago
Tribune have seized to do a little
dabbling in dirty waters. The
affair does no credit to Cordell
Hull."
