Dr. McFarland Will Be First
Speaker on Beth El College
Series Monday
Dr. Edward W. McFarland,
professor of economics at Wayne
University, will be the first
speaker in a series on the subject
`The Shape of Things To Come"
at Beth El College, at 9 p.m. on
Monday. This series is part of the
course of instruction in the 18th
annual opening of Beth El Col-
lege.
On successive Monday nights
a sociologist, a psychologist, an
industrialist. a medical man,
an historian, an educator, a
philosopher, a religionist, a
Jewish layman,
and a
rabbi
will discuss the nature- of the
post-war world. according to
their professional points of view.
Included in the curriculum of
the college this year are two
courses by Rabbi Bernard Zeiger
of Jackson. Mich.: "The World
Today," an analysis of current
happenings and personalities,
and "A Survey of Jewish His-
tory."
Rabbi Herschel Lymon, minist-
er of religious education, will give
a course in "Modern Jewish Cul-
ture." He will also conduct a
course in the theory and practice
of Jewish education, with empha-
sis on the religious school. This
course is for prospective workers
in this field of Jewish education.

Speaker Wednesday
The second in a series of 15

problems, sponsored by Young
Israel, will be held Wednesday,
Oct. 21, 9 p. m., at Yeshivath
Beth Yehudah, Dexter and Cort-
land:- The speaker, Rabbi Morris
Adler of Congregation Shaarey
Zedek, will lead the discussion
on the subject. "Jews in the
Post-War World." Subsequent
symbosia will take place on al-
ternate Wednesday evenings.
The program of adult educa-
tion, sponsored by Young Israel
for 10 months, includes classes
and study groups in Hebrew,
Chumosh-Rash. Prophets, his-
tory. Yiddish, Mishnah. Talmud,
religious law and interpretation
of prayers. Classes in Bible,
Talmud and Prayers are already
in session.

Two brothers were honored by
the First Hebrew Congregation
of Delray, on the evening of
Simhath Torah—to the one,
Rabbi Harry A. Greenfield, they,
said farwell. and to the other,
Rabbi Ernest E. Greenfield, they
extended cordial greetings in his
capacity of newly appointed spir-
itual adviser.
More than 300 members of the
congregation assembled to bid
Godspeed to the rabbi who had
guided their affairs during the
last nine years, and had resigned
to devote his efforts to defense
work. His brother, who will con-
tinue his work, came from Pitts-
burgh, Pa., and is a graduate of
the rabbinical schools of Debrec-
zen and Salgotarjan, Hungary.
Plans are under way for his for-
mal installation.
