CHICAGO—Breaking a tradi-
tion maintained since its incep-
tion in 1924, Aleph Zadik, Bnai
Brith youth organization, decided
that wartime was no time to
change its national leader—it re-
elected William V. Suckle of
Philadelphia, 19-year-old Har-
vard honor student, Grand Aleph
Godol (president at the close of
its three-day National War Ser-
vice convention here.
A national quota of $750,000 in
war bonds and stamps was
adopted by A. Z. A. after hear-
ing Mrs. Hannah Kaiser, head
of the youth section of the War
Savings Staff of the Treasury
Department, hail the record of
the Bnai Brith youth in tripling
their self-imposed quota o f
$80,000 in the last eight months.
After voting to set up a na-
tional war service committee to
further implement its war ef-
forts program, A. Z. A. approved
a broad "strong for America"
physical fitness campaign through
expanded athletic activities, vot-
ed unlimited aid to Red Cross
blood bank projects throughout
the country, to which 1,400 A. Z.
A. members already have given
their blood; application of all
energies toward cooperation with
the national salvage drive, the
Office of Civilian Defense and
Red Cross fund-raising efforts
and first aid classes.
By special arrangement with
Selective Service Headquarters,
over 100 delegates were regist-
ered for selective service at the'
convention headquarters. This ar-
rangement was made becauSe
the A. Z. A. boys between the
ages of 18 and 20 who were
required to register June 30
were enroute to the convention
on that day.
