he was chosen last Saturday to
receive the honorary degree of
Doctor of Laws from his alma

the university faculty, had this to
say of Justice Butzel:
"Throughout his professional
career, he has shown himself re-
sponsive to social needs and de-
velopment of the processes of
law. A counselor gifted with sym-
pathy and understanding, a jur-
ist versed in the interpretation of
legal principles and in the ad-
ministration of justice, a public-
spirited citizen honored and es-
teemed by the commonwealth
which he so ably serves."
Justice Butzel, who was grad-
uated with the U. of M. class
which recently celebrated its 50th
anniversary, was one of seven,
just half the usual number, des-
ignated to receive formal recog-
nition by the university for sig-
nal achievement.

Fred M. Butzel, Abraham
Srere and Henry Wineman of
Detroit and Dr. William Haber,
of Ann Arbor, were re-elected
to the board of directors of the
National Refugee Service at the
annual meeting in New York on
May 24. Theodore Levin and
Isidore Sobeloff were elected new
members of the board.
The meeting was attended by
150 leaders in refugee aid activ-
ity who heard reports on the
contribution of refugees in the
nation's war effort.

EUROPEAN. WELFARE
The European Jewish Women's
Welfare Organization has decided
to donate $200 to the Mt. Sinai
Hospital building fund.
Arrangements are being made
for a tag day in Mt. Clemens on
July 12.
The organization will sponsor a
banquet on Nov. 2, instead of a
dance.
A board meeting will be held
Monday at the home of Mrs. S.
Epstein, 11535 Byron, at 12:30
p. m.

The annual Flower Days of the
Jewish National Fund will be ob-
served in Detroit on Saturday
night, June 13, and all day Sun-
day, June 14, it is announced by
William Hordes, president of the
Jewish National Fund Council of
Detroit.
Flower Day was to have been
observed last month but was post-
poned in Detroit due to the Al-
lied Jewish Campaign.
Headquarters will. be at the
Helen Simon's branch of the
United Hebrew Schools on Tux-
edo and Holmur.
The Rally in which Avukah,
Young Judea, Jr., Hadassah, Uni-
ted Hebrew Schools, Habonim
and Hashomer Hatzair will take
