1941, when the Jewish Children's
Home and the Jewish Child
Placement Bureau were merged
into the new Children's Bureau.
A special meeting of the 12th
Street Merchants Association was
held April 22 at Lachars Hall,
to organize a campaign for the
sale of War Savings Stamps and
Bonds among the 250 business
places in the vicinity.
Jack Halperin was elected
chairman of the drive, and the
following executive committee
was chosen: Nathan Shecter,
Morris Davis. Bernard Pupko, H.
Linsky and Sam Halberg.
The members present at the
meeting, which was-organized by
Morris H. Goldberg, subscribed
$2,250 as the initial step toward
their goal. Plans soon will be
made to appoint captains in each
block between Grand Blvd. and
Atkinson, to canvas merchants
weekly.
Officers of the association are:
Kenneth May, president; Jack
Halperin, vice president; Julius
Pollack, secretary; and Nathan
Shecter, treasurer.

f the Conference, which met to
consider the current status of
colonization and to plan for the
expansion of agricultural produc-
ion, the resolutions called for
such aid to the settlements as
would enable them to extend
heir farms and to erect essen-

tial buildings. The resolutions
also urged the extension of all
branches of agricultural produc-
tion and the utilization of every
inch of land in order to avoid
the danger of shortage in the
country.
An exhibition illustrating the
expansion of Jewish industry in
Palestine since the outbreak of
the war is shortly to be opened
in this city, it was announced.
Sixty per cent of the 300 new
industrial establishments founded
by the Yishuv are working for
the Allied war tffort. it was
pointed out. A noteworthy fea-
ture is that a large part of the
machinery and technical equip-
ment for these new factories haS
I been made in this country. Of the
!new industries 78 are devoted to
textiles. 55 to metal wares, 48 to
chemical materials, 38 to food-
stuffs, 7 to building materials,
20 to diamond polishing, 10 to
cardboard making, 9 to leather
requisites, 7 to electrical equip-
ment and 20 to miscellaneous en-
deavors.
