Seek Permanent Haven Elsewhere
LONDON, (JTA)—The 150 Polish-Jewish refu-
gees who were admitted to the British West Indian
island of Jamaica two months ago, this week ap-
pealed to Jewish groups here to facilitate their emi-
gration to permanent settlements abroad.
In a cable to Dr. Ignacy Schwartzbart, Jewish
member of the Polish National Council, the refugees
reported that the Jamaica authorities do not consider
them immigrants but evacuees for the duration of the
war, and consequently they are not allowed to engage
in any kind of work and are housed in a special camp.
They are not allowed to move freely outside the camp
after 10 P.M. Several cases of fever have broken out
among the refugees, the cable also reported.

Meyer Levin, Morris N. Friedman, Robert E. Altman
