for our great fund-raising efforts.
It is Detroit's good fortune that the guest speaker on
this occasion will be the distinguished Jewish leader who
is the national chairman of the 'United Palestine Appeal.
Dr. Silver has just returned from an important tour of
communities in England. In the course of his visit abroad
he valiantly pleaded the Jewish cause, did not sugar-coat
his demands for a Jewish army and his protest against the
Struma outrage, and there is reason to believe that his
words did not fall on deaf ears.
In -London, Dr. Silver not only appeared before the
heads of the British Government as the proud advocate of
the rights of the Jewish people, but he was instrumental
also in contributing towards strengthening the morale of
the Jewish community there and to instill added courage
among the Jews of England in their struggle against the
Nazi menace.
What Dr. Silver accomplished in London ought to be re-
peated in Detroit, through the brilliant message he invari-
ably brings to people who are concerned that Israel's ex-
istence may be blessed with the early arrival of tranquility
and security.
May Detroit Jewry respond spontaneously and gener- ,
ouslx to Dr. Silver's !meal,
