Israel Denies Industry
Will Be Nationaliied
TEL AVIV—(WNS)—A denial
of the charge that the Israeli gov-
ernment contemplates nationaliz-
ation of industry was made by
Israel's new minister of trade
and industry, Yacov Geri.
Speaking to a delegation of
visiting South African Jewish
newspapermen, Geri declared
that a nationalization program at
this time would be "nothing short
of economic suicide."
He went on to say that reports
that private industry is under
pressure to enter into partner-
ship arrangements with coopera-
tives are utterly false. While
some private industries, he said,
have made such arrangements,
this has been done without any
pressure from the government.
The government, Geri said, is
encouraging all investments
which would earn hard currencies
by creating exportable goods and
investments which will give hard
currency by producing goods lo-
cally which must now be im-
ported.

Reading by their light was for-

in the synagogue, these lamps
were sometimes suspended out-
side such buildings to signal to

the medium in which such lamps
were fashioned, some of them
were made of pewter, porcelain,

LONDON— ( WNS) — British
minister of defense, Emanuel
Shinwell, speaking at a dinner
at the House of Commons, spon-
sored by the Friends of the Tel
Aviv Museum, hailed the ties of
friendship developing between
Britain and Israel.
He spoke highly of the de-

culture in Israel and expressed
the certainty that when final

this development will have a
wholesome effect on that region
