at Women's Council Meeting

Circuit Judge Joseph A. Moyni-
han just completed a one-week
speaking tour of the Southwest
in behalf of the National Con-
ference of Christians and Jews.
His itinerary took him to Hous-
ton, Tex.; Kansas City, Mo., and
Shreveport, La.
Moynihan spoke before audi-
ences of the Kiwanis Club,
Knights of Columbus and Optim-
ist Club, Rotary Club as well as
the radio.
In a letter to Moynihan, Jasper
MarLion, assistant to Hastings
Harrison, southwestern director,
said:
May I express my apprecia-
tion again and state my opinion
that there is no way to evaluate
adequately your contribution to
the cause of brotherhood, through
your benign presence which radi-
ates the spirit and your magni-
ficent public addresses."

to Induct Class
Mrs. Moise S. Cahn, first vice-
president of the National Council
of Jewish Women, will be pre-
sented to the Detroit section at
the March meeting of the local
group Monday at the Jewish
Community Center.
She will speak on "The Educa-
tion, Social Action and Service
Program of the National Council
of Jewish Women."
Mrs. Cahn's talk will be part
of the "Council 'Round the Clock"
program. The meeting will be de-
voted to the political and educa-
tional aspects of the Council's
work.
Mrs. Cahn is a past president
of the New Orleans section, and
is associated with many charita-
ble organizations. She is regional
chairman of the Louisiana Con-
ference of Social Welfare.

Honors Edelman
At a recent ceremony during
which the Sifrei Torah were
transferred from the old building
of the Carmel Hebrew School
and Congregation to the new
building at 17556 Wyoming, Sol
B. Edelman was honored fur his
effort in helping to build the new
school.
Edelman is president of the
congregation and the chairman
of the board of education.
He was also named chairman
of the first annual dinner dance
to be held at the new building
Sunday evening, March 5.

"tbe Frances Solovich Class" into
Bnai Brith women's chapter will
take place at 8:30 p.m., March 8
at the Masonic Temple.
This class is honoring Mrs.
Charles Solovich, past president
of Pisgah Chapter, past president
of District 6, an organizer of the
Detroit Women's Council and its
honorary president.
She is also a delegate of the
BB Supreme Council of Women.
The initiation and ritual is be-
ing planned by Mrs. Lewis Man-
ning and Mrs. Stanley Yates,
membership chairmen with the
cooperation of the 16 Women
Chapters.
PROTESTS WITHDRAWAL
OF 'AFFAIR BLUM'
To the Editor:
For some strange reason the
people of Detroit have been de-
prived of the right to see "The
Affair Blum," one of the finest
films on anti-Semitism ever pro-
duced.
With a great deal of advance
publicity "The Affair Blum"
opened at the Cinema on Feb. 15.
It was favorably reviewed by the
local papers. Yet on Feb. 17, the
movie was discontinued.
Upon discovering this I called
the manager of the Cinema. He
claimed the box office receipts
were exceptionally poor. He also
informed me that the decision to
pull the film came from New
York. (The Cinema is owned by
a New York concern.)
The film may be undesirable
to some because it deals frankly
with the question of anti-Semi-
tism. When our government wel-
comes into this country such men
as Herman Abs, a financial power
in the Hitler regime; when it
gives to Nazis high posts in the
West German government, one
cannot help but wonder whether
it will not also apply pressure
to restrict the showing of films
which may be too harsh on our
newly found friends and their
ideology.

Gold Star Parents
Choose Officers
At a meeting of the Detroit
Gold Star Parents Group affiliat-
ed with the Jewish War Veterans,
held on Feb. 19 the following
were elected to lead the organi-
zation for the following year.
Meyer Silverman, president;
Samuel J. Lieberman, vice-presi-
dent; Leo Grossman, secretary-
treasurer; Mr. and Mrs. Ben Iden,
health and welfare committee.
Board of directors members
chosen were Jack Geller, chair-
man; Philip Cantor, Rose Cantor,
Samuel Biom, Sam Escrow, Jo-
seph Newmark, Mary Calmer,
Louis Levine and Isadore Leib-
owitz.
The group has undertaken to
equip and furnish the memorial
room and lounge of the JWV
building. To raise funds for the
project a Nite of Games will be
held Sunday, April 16 at the
Memorial Bldg.

has purchased a site on Schaeffer,
north of Seven Mile road, west,
for the erection of a synagogue.
The congregation expects to
celebrate its 36th birthday in
September in the new building.
