PROTESTS WITHDRAWAL OF 'AFFAIR BLUM' To the Editor: For some strange reason the people of Detroit have been de- prived of the right to see "The Affair Blum," one of the finest films on anti-Semitism ever pro- duced. With a great deal of advance publicity "The Affair Blum" opened at the Cinema on Feb. 15. It was favorably reviewed by the local papers. Yet on Feb. 17, the movie was discontinued. Upon discovering this I called the manager of the Cinema. He claimed the box office receipts were exceptionally poor. He also informed me that the decision to pull the film came from New York. (The Cinema is owned by a New York concern.) The film may be undesirable to some because it deals frankly with the question of anti-Semi- tism. When our government wel- comes into this country such men as Herman Abs, a financial power in the Hitler regime; when it gives to Nazis high posts in the West German government, one cannot help but wonder whether it will not also apply pressure to restrict the showing of films which may be too harsh on our newly found friends and their ideology.
