Hebrew University May Get
Chair of Yiddish Next October

NEW YORK — (WNS) — The
Yiddish chair at the Hebrew Uni-
versity, sponsored by the Jewish
Worker's National Alliance, will
begin functioning in October if a
timely choice is made of a head
of that department.
This disclosure was made here
by Louis Segal, general secretary
of the Alliance, at a gathering
attended by leading figt res.
Prof. Selig Brodetsky, presi-
dent of the Hebrew University,
told the gathering that there is
still a good deal of opposition to
Yiddish at the Univehity.
At the same time he criticized
a professor of the Hebrew Uni-
versity for having said that Yid-
dish was "a dead tongue."
From a purely educational
point of view, he stated, the stu-
dents of the Hebrew University
who are estranged from Yiddish
must familiarize themselves with
that aspect of Jewish life ,be-
cause, he said, "hundreds of

congregation sponsored a cam-

Temple building at Manderson
and Merton Roads.

judge. Benjamin Bagdade, chair-
