Still Looking to Us

CALCUTTA— (WNS) —Profes-
sor Moulana Lal Choudhury of
Calcutta University declared here
that Israel is the "Western senti-
nel of Asia" and that "India has
more in common with Israel than
with any other race in Asia."
Professor Choudhury, a Sans-
krit and Arabic scholar, urged
Indian recognition of Israel.
The recent assertion by Pre-
mier Jawaharlel Neheru that
India cannot long delay recogni-
tion of Israel is being viewed
here as an indication that formal
recognition of the new state will
be forthcoming immediately after
Indian Parliament reconvenes at
the end of its New Year recess.
