That Dvora Lapson chose to
become a dancer was inevitable.
STARTED AS CHILD
Even as a child in New York
City, which was her birthplace,
while attending the First Shalom
Aleichem school in this country,
she studied dancing and pan-
tomime which was included
among other subjects in the cur-
riculum.
She supplemented this study
with special courses in the classi-
cal dance, studying under such
teachers as Isadora Duncan, Dor-
is llumphries and Michael Fo-
kinc.
But the classical dance was
not enough fur her. The same •
impulse leading LaArgentina' to
give up ballet fur Spanish dan-
cing and Shankar to leave Pasr-!
Iowa for Hindu art, persuaded',
Dvora Lapson to portray the
dance manifestations of the Jew-
ish people.

Chanukah Planners
The last strains of her poig-
nant gestures and light move-
ments fading away into the dusk'
of the Tel Aviv evening, the au-;
dience, watching with excite-
ment, pleasure, and enthusiasm,
suddenly rose to its feet and
thundered approval of the per-
formance.
The dancer, Dvora Lapson, the
au-
internationally recognized
thority and interpreter of the
modern Jewish dance, with her
dignified naturalness, originality,
and daring, turned to the huge
assembly and, with a graceful
smile, acknowledged the ovation
accorded her.
