Hadassah Set
for Mrs. Adler

Engagement Announced

Ely Stulman, violinist and Iller11-
her of the Detroit Symphony Or-
chestra, and Ruth Soifer-Caplan,
soprano, will be' guest artists at
the next Hashofar Musicale to be
held at 8:30 p. m., Sunday at the
home of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin
Laikin, 8360 La Salle boulevard.
Julius Chajes, director of mu-1
sic of the Jewish Community
Center, will lead in community
singing and Herman Jacobs, new-
ly elected chairman of Hashofar
will preside, Lillian Robbins-Zell-
man, chairman of home musi-
cales, announced.
Hashofar was founded in the
summer of 1945 by Detroit's lead-
ing Jewish musicians.
Its immediate aims are to en-
able those musicians, and. espe- !
cially laymen interested in the I
history and development of Jew-
ish music, to gather at monthly
meetings to hear, discuss and per-
form the better type of Jewish!
music.

"Around the Year in Jewish
Life" will be the over-all topic
of the Town Hall series of lec-
tures by Mrs. Millis Adler to be
delivered under the sponsorship
of the Detroit
chapter of Ha-
dassa at 10:30
a. m. each Wed-
nesday at the
McGregor L i-
brary, W o o d-
ward and Cort-
land.
The first lec-
ture on Nov. 9
will discuss
Mrs. Adler "How Jews
Reckon Time, The Sabbath —
Cornerstone of a Faith."
The other topics are:
Nov. 16, "The Pilgrim Festivals,
Passover, Pentecost and Taber-
nacles."
Nov. 23, "Penitence. Prayer
and Acts of Righteousness, the
High Holidays."
Nov. 30, ''Monuments in Time,
Chanukah, Purim and the Fifth
of Iyar."

gregation Shaarey Zedek, Dor-
othy Bertine Shekter, daughter
of Mrs. Betty Sterling Shekter of
Calvert avenue, and Mr. Sarre
Shekter of Roslyn road, became
the bride of Elliott Nathaniel El-
kin, son of Mr. Max Elkin of
the Colonial Hotel, Mt. Clemens.
The bride chose a blush-pink
silk net gown, with a blush-pink
satin redingote, falling into a
cathedral train. A Juliet cap held
the fingertip veil of illusion. She
carried a player book with or-
chids and trailing ivy,
Barbara Elkin was maid rat
honor.
Following a trip to the west
coast, the couple will reside tem-
porarily in Florida.

Bay City Chapter of Hadassah
held its first meeting of the year
at the Temple of Abraham. Previ-
ous to the meeting, the board held
a dinner meeting at the Wenonah
Hotel. Highlight of the evening
was an address by Mrs. William
A. Goldberg, of Grand Rapids,
who spoke on "The Privilege and
Responsibility of Hadassah on the
American Scene." Mrs. Goldberg
is vice-president of the central
states region of Hadassah and
first vice-president of the Grand
Rapids League of Women Voters.
Mrs. Reuben Adelman is presi-
dant of the local organization.
