`Big Saul'
Is in There
'Punching'
By 31ITCIIELL TENDLER
AUL ROGOVIN, the big (6 .3"-
215 lb.) Buffalo righthander
split his own private double-
header in one of the last regular
games of the International League
season.
It was a night
affair against
the second-place
Rochester R e d
Wings and "Big
Saul" was trying
for his 16th win
of the campaign.
II e pitched a
line-hitter and
struck out 10
Wings, but drop-
Tendler
ped a 10 inning,
3-2 decision.
On the way to the Buffalo
clubhouse Rogovin had a "few
words" with Rochester left-field-
er. Russ Derry, the details of
'which are rather obscure.

`Call Me K.O.'
THE RESULT of the ensuing
altercation wasn't in the least
obscure, however, as "Big Saul"
settled the issue with one belt,
the Sporting News reported, al-
though Rogovin lost his shirt and
pants in the melee before Roch-
ester players broke it up.
Saul came through in his next
start to hurl a pennant-clinching,
11-5 win over the fourth-place
Montreal club.
Following a mid-season oper-
ation in which a calcium deposit
on his right shoulder Was re-
moved, Rogovin did admirably
well. In his last four games on
the regular schedule, he struck
out 44, and, what is more impres-
sive, pitched 113 consecutive in-
nings without relief.
Among those present at the first session of the Program Planners Institute, sponsored by the
cultural commission of the Jewish ComMunity Council, were, left to right, Rabbi Morris Adler,
chairman; Prof. Jason Tickton, Louis Tendler, Dr. Shmarya Kleinman, Council president; Re.
becca Saunders, Esther Green, Charles Rosen, Eleanor Wolf and Boris M. Joffe, Council execu-
tive director.

Wins 1st Playoff
BUFFALO MANAGER PAUL
Richards chose Rogovin as his
leadoff pitcher in the playoffs.
and Saul justified the decision by
chucking a 12-5 victory over Jer-
sey City.
This past season under Rich-
ards. one of the best tutors a
young pitcher could have in or-
ganized baseball, may have been
just the diet Rogovin needed.
At any rate, he will be given
a very good looking-over by Red
Rolfe at Lakeland next spring,
that's for certain.

Saltzman Gets 20th
HAL SALTZMAN, whom his
devoted Portland followers have
dubbed "Prince Hal," a la New-
houser, beat San Francisco, 5-4,
and Los Angeles, 7-1. to become
the third 20 game winner in the
Pacific Coast League.
The feat .is even more com-
mendable, considering that Saltz-
man was pitching for a seventh-
place outfit.
Although rumors would have it
that Hal has already been con-
signed to several different clubs
in both major leagues, there as
yet has been no official deals,
and as of this writing, he is still
the exclusive property of the
Portland aggregation.
At the Ilanna Rovina Children's Home, founded by Moatzat
Hapoalot, Women's Council of Histadrut, scores of boys and
girls are given proper care while their mothers are at work.
