Vets Get Council Gifts

The basketball championship
was won by the Sobel boys,
while Larry Welman of the same
group took high oratory honors.
Flint's Chapter No. 214 walked
off with debating honors, thanks
to Benny Sorcher and Dave
Kline.

A dance carnival holds the
spotlight of the Rebecca Gratz
Auxiliary, Bnai Brith Young
Women. It will be Jan. 23 in
the auditorium of the Jewish
Center.

Patients at the Dearborn Yeterahs Hospital receive 850 Christ-
mas gifts from the Greater Detroit Bnai Brith Women's
Council. The project was handled by the Council's veterans
affairs committee, headed by Mrs. Leon Meckler, which made
certain that every veteran at the hospital received a present.
Mrs. Meckler announced that all Dearborn patients will also
receive gifts in January. Mrs. Meckler, who is in her second
year as chairman, has done an outstanding job in carrying
out the Council's veterans affairs program. Left to right:
Mrs. Meckler, Warren A. Cushing, chief of special services
at the hospital; a veteran; 0. E. flannel, assistant to Cush-
ing; a veteran; Mrs. Gerald Goldberg, Council president; Mrs.
Alfred Alexander, Downtown Chapter veterans affairs chair-
man; and Mrs. Ilarry Einhorn, Marshall Women veterans
affairs director.

A "FAMILY NIGHT" will be
held by the BBG's at 7:30 p.m.,
Thursday in the Jewish Center.
Members of Bnai Brith lodges
and auxiliaries will be special
guests of the younger set.

AZA's No. 313 upon taking of-
fice as president of the Michigan
region. . . . Also to Leonard Ca-
miner, vice-president; Bernie Co-
hen, reelected secretary; and
Manny Kalef, treasurer.
Added salutes to the Sobel
boys for winning the best chapter
award and for taking the na-
tional award along with Chapter
313. The latter group also re-
ceived the national Bnai Brith
cooperation award.
The Brewster Center All-Stars
won the basketball game against
the AZA All-Stars and were pre-
sented a trophy at the banquet.

JAN 16 HAS been set aside by
the IBYW for their "Bnai Brith
Day."

The Detroit Lodge of Bnai
Brith and its women's chapter
will hold their annual joint
meeting, Tuesday in the Lee
Plaza Hotel.
Dave Zimmerman of station
WWJ will present a program
entitled. "Prizes and Surprises"
and Allan Siphor and Sherry
Epstein, dance instructors, will
give rhumba demonstrations. A
"lox and bagel" party will
follow.
Dave Kurzman and Mrs.
Charles Makie are presidents of
the groups.

cession; and Mildred Fertell will

Others are Jeanette Kroll,
fishing well; Bella Sugar, auc-
tion booth; and Alice Bistrow-
itz, refreshment booth.

WINNER OF the chess tourna-
ment was Jake Sharp of Chapter
No. 656, while Dave Katchke of
Pontiac proved the best checker
player. Chapter 656 also took the
ping pong singles and the pool
singles and doubles title.
For his excellent review of
"Peace of Mind" by Rabbi
Joshua Liebman, Bernie Cohen of
Chapter No. 313 captured top
laurels in that department.
Emanuel Chapter No. 337
knocked down the most pins in
the bowling tournament.
